So far only 4 people have replied so maybe a lack of humor exists out there in the interwebs, so maybe it should go away???
its seems like its a combination of things, but mainly humor has somehow gotten to be "offensive". even a lot of the professional comedians have been commenting on how audiences are dwindling and people are not into humor much anymore. I know the younger bunch, my grown kids for example, take everything as a personal attack and they are also very self-centered, so by being so self absorbed...any sarcastic or off the wall humor is viewed as a direct and personal attack against them personally. when the world revolves around you...EVERYTHING is taken personal. plus, people don't think for themselves much anymore...humor used to indicate a fairly high intelligence, especially the quick witted humor which required fast thinking and good memory recall. fast thinking and memory recall has been replaced by constant attention to a phone screen...
I graduated high school and went into the navy and then spent many years on offshore oil rigs and ships, etc. my first sub was the USS Shark and I was liked and feared...if it was a long deployment and I was bored, things were about to get interesting. I'm sure there are still a few sailors out there that specifically remember that one deployment where I got my hands on several tubes of super glue

. nobody got mad or cried about it...you either sucked it up or upped your game, which made the deployment more enjoyable, or at the least, tolerable. putting super glue on a handrail and seeing an officer stuck to it like a fly on flypaper never got old!
having a sense of humor was just simple survival and people liked you based on your sense of humor, how well you could roll with the punches, and you were considered "weak" if you were easily offended. now being offended is a status symbol worn on the sleeve for all to see.
I'm sure that if the Three Stooges were alive today, they would be taken to the Hague and charged with crimes against humanity for those eye gouges and repeated slaps to the head. Even Chuckles the Clown would now be in jail or prison for assault with a deadly pie and promoting "violence"....
