The $25 ones are only 5 watts (vs 8 watts). Also there are a tun of knock off ones on Amazon.

Yeah, I ran one of these for years as my primary radio, and never had an issue with it. I used the antenna mentioned above as well as a battery eliminator. I keep it in the rig as a loaner/spotting radio as well.
