My wife's cousin put this into my head after I saw him and his family set up an outfitters tent for the weekend on snowmobile. Anyone into this stuff? We were talking and I think it's an awesome idea to load up the sleds and go cross country for a week or two and explore that way.

Back in the mid sixties I went on a snowmobile retreat up on Michigan’s northern peninsula. I might have been 12 years old. We were farmers and cold weather gear meant rubber barn boots, two or three pairs of socks, two pairs of pants, a sweatshirt over maybe a flannel shirt, a zippered insulated hoodie, and an old overcoat atop it all. If ya got wet, ya got cold. I remember being very cold the entire ride into and back from camp. Given my history one might think I’d never want to do that again, but I think it’d be a blast.

Technology in clothing has come A LONG WAY since then Moak. I used to put 5-7000 miles a year on my snowmobile from the time I was 10 until my mid 20s when other priorities got in the way. My parents went to florida for the winters, and sold their machines. Sold their house down there a few years ago and are now back into sledding.....which got me back into wanting to do it with my family. We are going to get a new skandic wt 600 ace and a tundra LT 600 ace next year. I will tow a pelican sled with all our camping gear in it and just go until we want to stop, set up camp and travel around there for a few days then move on to a new spot.

This is the Skandic

and this is the tundra

Both are 4 stroke, get over 300km to a tank of gas and have plenty of flotation and storage. Next winter these will replace the Wrangler for back country duties!
