Today took a little trip to the horseshoe curve by Altoona pa. Say about 2 hrs from Pittsburgh. It's a nice drive through the Allegheny mountains. I just take route 22 east. A little piece of history.

That's someplace I've wanted to visit!

Back in my film camera days, I used to seek out when a steam engine was passing by, and go take B&W photos. When I was a kid, The General came through my home town on its way to Detroit to the museum. There's a nice museum in Bellevue, Ohio that I've visited, and a few scattered across the US on vacations. I'd loved to have travelled that way back in the old days.

My dad was the corporate photographer for CSX/Chessie Systems in the 80's and 90's. He made many many trips to Horseshoe Curve during that time. He's now working at the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, OH. It's not open to the public, except through large group tours that are setup in advance during the summer months.

If you ever read Trains magazine in the 90's, there's a good chance you saw his photos on the cover, or read an article he wrote. He seemed to get them 4-6 times per year.
