US Southwest Annual Texas Hill Country Route Trip

I put my socks on over my boots, it’s my son’s first soccer game on that day so I won’t be able to make it. I hope that everyone has an awesome time!

Sorry you'll miss it. Good luck to your son.

My girlfriend and I are planning to come down from Oklahoma for this. we would be down the night before. Are there any good campgrounds near by? we would be staying Friday night and sat night then driving home on Sunday. Also we do not have any coms. What is our best option for coms?

With the eclipse happening on the Monday after, many places may be booked up already. Especially, the state parks (Inks Lake, Longhorn Cavern). Best option for this may be Oxford Ranch near Llano. It's about 25 miles from the trip start and I believe no reservations taken. There are other parks nearby as well you can check out. I suggest a google search of camping near Marble Falls and start calling to see if you can book something early. Once you do, we can coordinate a meet-up location.

FYI, stay away from Fredericksburg. It's going to be crazy busy.

I will call around on Monday. Most likely we will try and stay at Oxford Ranch. what do we need for a radio? I dont currently have one.

For this group, a frs or gmrs handheld is sufficient. We’ll typically be on channel 15, so either with work.

Just curious... What are yall's thought's on bringing a front-wheel drive Honda CR-V for this event? If the James river's bottom is rock, it shouldn't be much of a thing, right?

I would imagine you'd be fine. When I've been there it's only been about 8-12" deep.

I took my FWD RAV4 and it handled great. No issues. It’s all dirt roads.

I’ll be joining with my wife and 2 kids. Maybe bringing 2 other rigs with me as well. We will see if they can make it.

It says it’s a day trip that starts and ends on the 6th but it also says there’s camping. Where are you going to be camping and do we need reservations?
The common place to camp is Oxford Ranch near Llano. It’s first come first serve, no reservations. BUT, that weekend is also eclipse central, so it may be packed.

So there’s not a planned location?
