With ascension day and the following weekend we are going back to Mecklenburg Vorpommern Germany. Which is called the land of 1000 lakes. We have been there in the past and now we are going back to have some fun and if possible a meet up with friends.
This area of Germany is part of the former DDR/Sovjet union. Which means till the day of now that everything is way less changed as the rest of Germany.
Therefor there are still a great deal of tracks and such plus some old towns and buildings that reminds about that time now in the past.

Every time I cross the former border between West Germany and Eastern Germany I as a former Nato soldier get the shivers.
The museum at the border is very interesting and makes it worth to stop there when driving to or from Berlin.
This time due time we will stop there when we are going back.

Yesterday once again we did a part of the castle tour we did a few weeks ago. But this time I annoyed Google like every turn. As I went left and right just as I was feeling it could be good. Just the main visiting points were there. So, it was in our neighbourhood and we hardly were more as 30km away from home the world was absolutely stunning. Found little tracks, small roads and nature plus all the houses were just amazing.
It made me once again realize that Overland, or the Explore part of that is everything right outside your front door.

We had a great drive to and thruogh Mecklenburg VorPommern.
Together with our friends Andrea and Christof we drove like three days there and did a lot of km's through the forest and countryside and had good fun by finding geocaches. (that part is for the ladies)
The campsite was like normal but it did the job. And as we were out for the most of the day, it really didnt matter.

Anyway, good fun great people and beautiful weather.

half way the week and yes, we have a bigger trip coming up this weekend.
First of all we are going to the other side of the Netherlands and meet up with some other OB members.
Then we are doing a nice route for two days driving from West to East through the south of the Netherlands.
Doing a bit of camping, BBQing, sightseeing and of course, lots of talks.

Will report after the weekend.

Our latest trip was again to Salisbury Plains and we had a superb weekend out. We left on wednessday, did meet up at Calais Tunnel with Chris and heard that his car wasnt doing all that well already.
But we decided still to push through. Wednessnight we arrived in Woking at Nik and Leanns house and stayed the night. The next day we tried to fix Chrisses Car but that didnt work out. Even two friendly garages didnt do the trick. Anyway, still go on.
I was, as I couldnt do a thing at that moment, headed towards the campsite as Steve and Gretchen were on their way as well.
As I arrived at the campsite I met some nice older chaps who all had landrovers but left the Offroading behind and still did some touring around.
Good nice little talks and who knows friends for life.
On the friday after some checks we decided the do lanes anyway, and Chris his car did well, so we could rule out some parts that caused the problem.
Great day driving and so after a short stop at the campsite we went for Fish and Chips in the evening and at that at Stonehenge.
The rest of the night we spend talking and laughing around the campfire.
Unfortunally Chris didnt want to take any risk, so we decided to go home on the saturday as the car had the problem in higher speeds.
And we had to fix a fail sparkplug.
So finding a new cap for that was a bit of a challenge. But we mastered it.
The trip home was good, no problems and we left just before the dutch border as he went towards his home and we went up to ours.
We arrived around two/thirty at home and slept in all morning.
Now we do soem clean up and more. All was fine and we thank all for being there with us.
Especially Nik and Leann for all the great hospitality.
BTW we have a new recepy, chicken with honey mustard. Super!!!!

This coming weekend we are going for another spin at Funpark Meppen. Just the last training for soft sandy roads and beach conditions.
In the meantime I am working to make the Rig a bit nicer again. The wheels were a bit worn of with the black paint, so a bit of repainting that.
I have a little rattle in the brakes, which is not a problem just a bit annoying. Did soem work on that, will see what happens.
Next week we gonna pack for our big trip to Portugal. At last we will have a good time with hopefully loads of sun and plenty of tracks to drive.

This Easter we went on a trip with friends to the north of France and specific near the town of Abbeville.
We found a good campsite for a basecamp and also some tracks in tha area.
So, on the thursdayafternoon we drove down to France and we reached the campsite around 2100 hours.
Setting up camp was easy as we did that so often. And soon we were having a drink and a talk before hitting the sack.

The next morning after a good and relaxed breakfast we head down to the trails. Unfortunally we found one trail fully closed and so we did a bit of search and had a nice drive through the dunes. Nice way in, same way out, so twice the fun.

20240329_121827.jpg
After that we head out to another track and followed that one untill it was time to go back to basecamp.
Two major things. A nice and old Abby and a watercrossing over a bridge. Strange? Nope the water was so high it just went over the bridge.
So much fun even as it was very very easy.
After returning to basecamp we fired up the grill and made some lovely food. With us all loving spicy food it was a good meal.
When we went to bed there was at a point one loud bang and after that another one and the next day we found out that the RTT mounts bars on the Jeep of Amila broke off.
In the first place he thought of going home, but I said, we can fix that together. And we did.
And let me say, it is way sturdier as before, even as it is a temporarily solution.

We used some poles to lift the tent so we could work on it with ease.
And it was fixed and we had a afternoon well spend. Again good food and talks during the evening.
The sunday we again hit the tracks and again very pleasant. All tracks werent very difficult, rather easy but mud and such gave it a bit of spice.

Unfortunally on the monday we had to go home.
A normal trip with enough breaks and no problems and we are home again.
Up to the next trip.

Wow, absolutely fantastic trips and pictures! I had the great privilege and pleasure to spend a couple of weeks in Holland in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of the Liberation, as my army unit was specifically invited by the Dutch government due to the regiment's role in liberating Amsterdam and other cities. It was an incredible trip and I will never forget the gratitude and kindness of the Dutch people toward us.

Overlanding in Europe is such a different experience vs North America it seems, yet the spirit of adventure is every bit the same. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more!
