It wasn’t too very long ago that I refused to even consider airbags as a suspension up grade for a lot of, in my narrow mindedness, good reasons. Primarily because nothing existed for pick up trucks, that even came close to performing the way air springs do on 18 wheelers. In 25 years and almost 4 million miles I never experienced a single failure of an airspring. The biggest problem for a 4WD pick up truck was articulation. At full droop, most airbags will be strained and eventually rip apart. The pancake airbags would also rock, roll and be bouncy.
I needed to do something, because at 6400 lbs on my rear axle we were sitting on the factory helper spring and basically dragging tail. A Carli suspension was completely out of line for a plethora of reasons. Spring shops that know what they are doing wanted a pile of money, and were located 3,000 miles from our base. Local spring shops were non commital, “ just add a leaf or two” they would say. Which is fine for a work truck, but we wanted comfort and a load bearing system. After a ton of research, lots of phone calls, and more research, I discovered the Logiqaire air springs. They cost twice as much as the pancake type bags, and with installation came in at the same price point that local spring shops wanted. The ride, stability and quality of build are worth every penny spent. The down travel is more than the factory droop, they will never be strained. Just my 2cents.
