What I do is click the New Posts button, as our resident gnome suggested. This will give you a list of threads containing new posts. If you click on the little red indicator to the left of the thread title, it will take you directly to the newest post. Even easier, is right-click, open in new window/tab on each red dot. Then you won't have to keep going back and forth to the list.
