Always funny how people people say you need a rooftop tent to get a good nights sleep while overlanding. When I was in the military I slept all kinds of crazy places just fine. The secret to a good nights sleep back then was total exhaustion. Today, I have come to realize that if I was not able to get a good nights sleep “out in the field” for any reason it is generally an indication that I did not consume enough adult beverages before trying to sleep. Just saying. :)

I found myself sleeping out of boredom... out at the shooting range waiting 4 hours for my turn... yup find me sleeping on the rock pile.

For a good night sleep these days while out on the trails, I just find a good rock pile then I feel at home.

Over the years I have used roof top tents, sleep inside setups and now a poptop 4wd van.

For me as an amputee, bad hip and bad back getting decent sleep means I will enjoy the trip so so much more, especially as I prefer multiday outings.
Exped Mega Mat makes a huge difference regardless of ground, cot, RTT, or van.

Total Exahustaion and Temperature. I can't sleep for anything when its hot and humid out. The USB powered Fan has saved my bacon plenty.
I have found this to be true regardless of where I sleep. I have a nice thick mattress for camping and as long as I’m cool, I sleep - regardless of my elevation.

I am in the tired and temperature crowd, too hot or too cold leads to tossing and turning, plus depending on location/wind earplugs.
