2022 Dacia Duster 2 Extreme 1.5dCi 4x4

Time to introduce my future rig, as I ordered it on March, 19th and as I am actually selling my Wrangler.

The new rig will be a Dacia Duster 2 Extreme 1.5dCi 4x4 in slate grey with a lot of nice gimmicks.

Future changes will be:

- 30mm Eibach / Bilstein lift
- 235/55R17 General Grabber AT3
-> possible change to Dotz Dakar 7x16 with 235/60R16 General Grabber AT3
- 16" steel rims with 215/70R16 Nokian Outpost AT
- Skid plates all around
- front bar with additional lights
- rear bar with protection for ad blue tank
- roof rack ( I thought about Frontrunner, but @El-Dracho mentioned it could be a bad choice due to bad quality , so maybe it will be a Rhino Rack platform? )
- CB radio

Next update will be some real pics, when the car arrived in July / August.

Supercool. Congrats!

As I said, I had a Frontrunner roof rack myself for a few years. One of the earlier old versions, which still consisted entirely of one part (except the feet of course) and also the railing was still welded. That one was really great and has endured a lot. The Frontrunner racks I have seen lately do not meet my quality and stability requirements. However, I really like the Rhino Rack platforms. Just look at the different roof racks, check with your needs and requirements and then decide for yourself.

Enjoy the Dacia once it will be delivered.

Update:

Estimated date of production: June 15th 2022

Estimated date of arrival at dealer: August 3rd - August 17th 2022



16" steel rims and 215/65R16 Nokian Outpost AT already ordered.
I will now rather go with the 16" steel rims than with the factory 17" high gloss black alloy wheels due to easier handling when damaged, cheaper price and snow chain compatibility.

Update:

Estimated date of arrival at dealer: 3th of October... :-(

Had to resell the 16" with Nokian Outpost AT again.

Dacia changed the load index to 100 @ 17" and to 102 @ 16".. the KO2 are too expensive in 215/65R16 for my needs.. so I will give the Falken Wildpeak AT3WA a try in 215/60R17 100H on the black alloy wheels..

Some update here and also a big sorry für not giving response to DMs. I was very busy last months with the restauration of my girlfriends Miata. Took me about 150hours of work to put it back on the streets again.

Duster arrived and driving with it really is a pleasure. We made a trip to the baltic sea - Island of Ruegen. Drove well, took about 4,7litres of Diesel on 100km

After this trip, tires were changed.

General Grabber AT3 in 215/60R17 96H are performing very well with this car, especially while hunting.

Front runner roof rack and cargo barrier was installed as well as a trailer hitch.

Further mods for 2023 will be:

Roof rack light bar
3cm lift
Some body protection
Cargo build

First offroad trip will lead through the french alps in September 2023. Wanna see if the Dacia can follow up some serious Wrangler builds

Awesome. Thw Duster is a great base for an overlanding rig. Have seen plenty of them in Morocco.

Good morning and happy new year to all.

Was a little bit bored yesterday, so I began planning on my eletricl setup.

My car will get some additional lights for driving and camp site. While using it as daily driver, all of those electrical consumers will be supplied by starter battery.

While using the car on overland trips there will be added a freezer and the needed air compressor, for what I will switch to a 2nd battery and a booster with solar.

I will wire 2*25mm² supplies to the interior and fit an Anderson connector to it. Plus will get a 100A fuse. on daily driving this connector will lead to a 12V distributor. On Overland trips, the connector will lead to the battery system. From there on lead some 2nd wires to the consumers. But have a Look in my plans, I hope you can see how it is supposed to work.

The road so far... it performs very well.

Wayyy less attitude than the Wrangler. You know what I mean.

Yes, it will be some major electric update. Hope it will work out as planned.

My actual opinion about its performance:

Due to less weight, compared to my before Wrangler, the Duster is much more capable while out hunting. On wet grass and muddy floor the car will not sink in as much as the Wrangler did. Therefor, it is much easier to manuveur over the fields and through the woods.

Street performance is much better, due to better comfort. The 980km to Island of Ruegen were a pleasure to drive with minimal pauses. Couldn't have been that easy with the Wrangler.

What to say about its offroad performance?

Can't answer this question yet.
First "offroad" experience will be a trip with some Wranglers through the french alps.

Wiring from engine bay to trunk can be done now.

Will post some pics when I do the work next weekend.

At the moment, I'm thinking about to remove the 17" alloy wheels now yes, and replace them to 16" factory steel rims with 215/70R16 Nokian Outpost AT instead of 215/65R16 or 215/60R17. This will increase hight about 1/2".
With the later installed lift kit, I will gain about 4,3cm / about 1.75" of lift in total.

I built the wiring harness, which houses now:

4x2,5mm² power supply front beams
2x4mm² Solar Input

Those tires ad a 1cm lift to the car and fit them much better than the 17".

Sry for late response. Had some busy times the last months.

No more add-ons the last months. Duster does great so far.

Had zero trouble yet.
25.000km without the slightest amount of problems.

Will put the front bar and two lights to it when it's warmer again.
