We have 2 active fires in the Phoenix area. Both are human caused. One is on a very popular trail, Montana Mountain. Last year they closed entire forests for weeks. Why? Because the national forest service was tired of trying to police people who were starting campfires even though there was an all out ban. They were flying drones and planes at night to watch for fires.
I always bring as much water as possible and never pour it out until I am back at home. We have put out too many fires which others have left behind. If you see a fire mark a waypoint and report it. Worst case it has already been reported.
