We recently picked up a 2017 Manley ORV from a member here on the forum to carry and organize our camping gear. Rooftop tent camping isn’t an option for us so the plan is to use the trailer to carry a fridge, tent, chairs, cots, kitchen box, and other camping gear. I will be documenting our upgrades and the setup of the trailer for our needs. The plan is to have the trailer packed so that all we have to do is add food and beer to be able to leave on last minute trips in less than an hour. Here is the trailer on the day of pickup.

We plan on powering a fridge with solar so I took advantage of a 20% off sale and ordered a pair of Battle Born LiFePO4 100aH batteries. I haven’t decided if I am going to use 1 or both batteries yet. I also ordered a Victron IP65 AC charger. The batteries weigh 29lbs each.

We are planning out storage and a refrigerator so I took some measurements of the trailer. I may also get a cover made for the trailer so I took some exterior measurements as well.

18.75 interior height

70 1/2 interior length

40 3/4 interior width

76 length to cover lid

96 length to cover tongue box

55 width bars

69 width fenders

117 length without hitch

The previous owner already had a Power Tank propane tank holder mounted on the aluminum lid so I purchased a Flame King 11lb propane tank on Amazon and took it down to Ace Hardware to get pushed and filled. This will be much better than using 1lb tanks for the Camp Chef stove. 9DF530B6-DD22-4FD1-88B4-484494E7C5D1.jpegF4F921C1-2D43-412E-90D6-75C198F57FA4.jpeg

The trailer came with a Max Coupler hitch and since I’m practicing social distancing I decided to stay home and disassemble and remove the grease seal and clean it out before greasing with synthetic grease.

While I was greasing the hitch, UPS arrived with the Dometic CFX3 75DZ that I ordered this weekend from Main Line Overland’s virtual open house for 20% off. I test fit it in the 4Runner and the trailer.

I scored a great deal on FB marketplace and got 5 aluminum Euroboxes for $150 bucks. Now I’ve got storage sorted out for inside the trailer. With the lid opening from the rear it’s going to be a challenge to get them in and out.

I’m slowly gathering everything to complete the electrical in the tongue box. Today the Xantrex Prowatt S.W. 2000 came in and I was able to test fit it. It will only be able to be mounted sideways. I might need a bigger tongue box.

I used the trailer to get mulch today and loaded 20 bags and 4 bags of topsoil on each trip. I broke a wheel stud on 1 of the trips. I got home and jacked up the trailer and the hub had 3/8in of play. I will pull the hub to get part numbers off the bearings tonight.

I replaced the hubs with a set of Dexter replacements and bought a 3rd as a spare to have for trail repairs. The hubs from the factory had too much play due to the cotter pin not engaging the castle nut properly. A 1” ID washer from the local trailer supply company spaced the castle nut out so that the cotter pin doesn’t let the castle nut loosen 2 full turns. I packed the bearings and greased the spare hub and sealed the parts in a food saver bag with 5 lug it’s, 2 cotter pins and another washer for trail spares.
