Also swapped out the Evo tire carrier for the AEV frame mounted one. I'm planning to run 2 2-gal rotopax on it so wanted the weight supported better. This thing is really solid.

It’s been a while, but got out for a drive to the Catskills this morning. I’m using a new dslr instead of my iPhone for the pics so this will be a test post from flickr. We’ll see how it goes...

I found a nice trail that went for a looong ways through the woods. At first it was semi plowed, but then turned into a few inches of snow with no tracks through it. Nothing too crazy but a nice, scenic drive.

Thanks. I wanted a rack for a while, and if I got one, it would be the quick release rhino rack. My Jeep barely fits in the garage as it is now so I wouldn’t want to leave the rack on all the time when I didn’t really need it. I might look into the idea again after the winter
Good point! I am looking at the rhino backbone mounts with the pioneer platform, or just going for the frontrunner. Most of the racks out there scare me. These are the only 2 I feel confident with since they attach through the roof to the rollbar. Removing the back portion of the top is something I'll never do, but I WILL have to check clearance at my office parking garage. I think the rhino would be much easier to attach/detach quickly if needed. Strength is very important to me. If I broke my top because the rack wasnt up to the task, I would be pretty upset.
I wouldn’t have any hesitations going with the rhino rack. I don’t think I’ve even seen a negative review based on quality or strength. Unless you go with a cage type rack like a Gobi, I think the rhino rack is the way to go.
My top 2 choices are rhino and frontunner. They actually put a car on top of a jeep with a frontrunner and then picked the jeep up with a crane by the rack. I thought that was pretty impressive.
I think either are more than up to the task. The rhino I am looking at is about 1300 dollars and the frontrunner comes in a short version that is about 1100, and a long that is 1500.
The rhino is lower profile and sleeker, but the frontrunner is stronger, however much that may be. Both offer lots of accessory and customization options.

It’s been a while and really haven’t done much else too exciting to the jeep. Chromoly axle shafts went in not too long ago and basically just been driving the heck out of it. Here’s a couple pics from a trip to Maine last week that had me driving the jeep for about 20 hours over 2 days (there and back). Longest trip so far but good practice for driving to Colorado in July. It’s running great and devouring gas lol.
Got it. If I drove a Jeep I'd set it up similar to this, nice and simple, no crazy fenders and what not. Less = more.
Yea, simple is good. Sometimes I wish I went more low key/no stinger with the front bumper but it is well built and will definitely protect the winch. I looked all over when I bought this jeep to find one with as few options as possible. Only extra option this one came with was the connectivity group for Bluetooth.

The rhino rack can sit extremely low with the short foots, the frontrunner rack is better in some ways but sits way to high for me.

If you have any military affiliation or know someone that does you can save a few hundred on the rhino rack on experticity.com. You will need to buy the backbone separately but for example a 74x49 Pioneer Platform is going for $512 plush shipping (assembled or flat pack)
