So this is my second Commander build my 2006 got totaled in a wreck and caught fire!!! :(
My current build is a 2008 Jeep Commander 4.7 v8.

Love the Commander, it’s on my radar as my next purchase... any downsides to owning one? It’s NOT gonna be my daily driver but needs to be reliable for those longer distance off-road trips.

When it comes to Commanders, the later the year, the better. The 4.7L had significant engine upgrades in 2008 that added 70HP & more Tq. In 2009 the Hemi had significant engine upgrades as well, added another 30HP. Ideally, you'd want to find a low mileage 09/10 Hemi with QDII 4WD system, or an 08-09 4.7L with QDII 4WD system. I'm partial to the 4.7L, but the 09+ Hemi is a good option as well.
