  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Life sometimes finds a way, since I’ve joined I’ve always been trying to find a way to actually get out there and do some camping. My second car has recently turned into a third that has sat (with some electrical issues recently). My job has me away from home in West Virginia often and I’m sick of rotting in a Hotel. I’ve decided now is the opportunity to use my 82 Volvo as a light duty camper/Hotel transportation and it won’t take much to set it up, save for sorting out my electrical bugs it’s already a solid driver that I was putting hundreds of miles a month on.

My plan for now is to sort the electrical, I’m going to keep the tires stock since they’re only a year old. It’s due for new rear springs and lateral arm bushings soon anyway so I’ll look into the Overload HD springs. I’m not planning on camping in the wagon, but I’ll look at installing a functional roof rack (which will mean removing the factory one) and going with a single person roof pop-up. With the rear seats up I still have an incredible amount of room for gear and since this version was not equipped with the third row I have an under load floor space that can be locked as well.

Stay tuned!

Technically, I pulled this thing out of a junkyard in 2023 ripped out the Kjet injection and installed a Weber Carburetor in its place and it’s been a fun and robust little thing. I’ve had many of these cars next to my old Ford trucks.

Sounds fun. As someone who grew up riding in the back of multiple 240 wagons, there's something to be said about having a big, square box to work in!

FYI - there are a few rally 240s around (one has a build thread on grassroots motorsports) that might have some tips if you ever go for more of an offroad-style suspension setup (especially for fast gravel!)

Update: finally got my wiring situation figured out. When I installed the new fuse box I had some stuff backwards. Called a buddy today across the country and we compared harnesses and where what goes where and an hour later my car works again as it should.

Gonna button some the things up them out it back under tags and such then look at actually setting it up for my uses.
