I recommend getting the drill jig as well.
Don't just buy a front driveshaft without measuring first. Not all front XJ driveshafts are the same length. Driveshaft length will depend on your specific drive train combination and lift. I have a 5 speed manual and I can't run any XJ front drive...
What are you stuck on? I know there are some snap rings and a dust cover that can be tricky without the right tools. A good set of snap ring pliers will do wonders and shouldn't cost to much.
I have a transfer case that I installed an SYE in, and I have another that I did a hack'n tap.
I personally don't think one was harder to install over the other. Yes you open the case with the SYE but it's not that difficult. The hack'n tap requires some careful cutting of the output shaft...
I see them around where I live in Canada all the time (every day). I'm always tempted to get one but never quiet sure about RHD. Let me know if it becomes second nature! Good luck on the build. You should start a build thread (I'd like to follow along)!
Yep, JL wheels. I bought them cheap from a shop in town that sells a lot of dealership take-offs. $750 Canadian dollars for new wheels and tires. The pressure sensors are not compatible with the commander though.
Quite right, that is not a picture of a Commander valve seat. I only meant to illustrate what a dropped valve seat was.
You quoted me from two years ago (cool!) I still have my Commander and it's been great. Small maintenance and nothing more. I installed a 2" lift. My youngest daughter is now...
I'm in Calgary. I poke my head in here from time to time. Most of the weekend runs are organized by smaller clubs (of which there are a healthy number).
Welcome to Alberta!
I'm 6'3 180lbs. Height is more my issue.
I'm almost always too tall for my vehicles.
An exception is my Jeep Commander.
For my Cherokee (XJ) I fabricated my own seat mounts and made the seat sit lower and move further back.
Support got back to me and all is well. I just had to un-install the app and re-install from the Play store. After logging in again, I have all the features.
I've been a member since Feb 2017 and the app asks me to upgrade my membership as well. I don't remember ever seeing an activation link? I'll email support but I thought it would be worth posting because others may face the same.
If you're not doing any of the work to repair/maintain your vehicle, then spending 5k now and then to get the work done on an older overland vehicle should not come as a big surprise. Seems par for the course to me.
If you're at the mercy of shop-rates to perform repairs/maintenance (not to...
Thanks! It was a pretty special trip. Wife and kids were out of town so I jumped in my Jeep (in a completely half-ass kinda way) and went for a solo drive. Luckily I keep a minimal amount of gear in the vehicle so I was able to spend an impromptu night sleeping in the back seat in order to...
I don't recommend taking that chance. Cars do periodically get inspected going either direction over the border. If you get caught entering Canada with a firearm that has not been declared, it will be destroyed, you pay a fine, and you might do time behind bars.
