    we've had mice in vehicle issues here, we live very rural... and you want to start with not leaving anything food related, then anything they can nest with, ie paper, napkins, kleenex etc most mice build a nest but move on when it gets too dirty from urine and poops, hence the smell...

    how many hours are you willing to drive those two travel days? i would expect with a child under a year old that 600 miles in a day would be a stretch, but you know your family... 600 miles in a day is likely to take 10-12 hours of travel...
