    '02 Forester Rig-Lite

[ Mild Mods / Small Update] So this past week or so I’ve done a few upgrades to the forester. First and foremost: a roof rack. It’s a cheapie from Walmart but it’s holding up and works fine so far. I also put up a cargo net ($8) for the rear. It works great for storing the window screen...

    Comms: Uniden v Midland?

Neither have a scan feature. Honestly I didn't know that existed.

    Comms: Uniden v Midland?

Both are the same size, same knobs, same layout. Prior to finding this deal, I was planning on a Midlands MXT115 GMRS radio. So I may go with that. Did some reading and found that Uniden is preferred for many wheelers and coal miners for their durability. I'll have to get it all hooked up and...

What do you think are really good tires for most off road ventures

I will always run a BFG if available. I've had the KO and KO2s on nearly all my vehicles. Next tire for my foz will be a 215/75r15 KO2.

Where did you install your OB emblem?

Thanks for that. May have to get one myself.

Where did you install your OB emblem?

Did the grille already have a spot for the badge? Or did you make one? Looks factory!

    Comms: Uniden v Midland?

I picked up a pair of CBs yesterday very cheap. $10 for both. One is a Midlands 1000 and the other is a Uniden 510xl. Which one would you guys run? They both work. I think. They both power on, change channels, and light up when the mic is keyed. No antenna yet to truly test.

A friend of mine had a 92(?) with the "HO" 4.0. Same color and everything. We swapped for a day and he decided that the renix wasn't for him. :tearsofjoy: I always wanted to go 2.5/3" with 35s. Nice LCOG. I ended up swapping mine for a 99 Subaru Legacy. Thus began my lifelong Subaru addiction.

Welcome to OB! Any mods to the XJ? I had an 88 with a 2" lift and 33s. Ol' Renix 4.0 and the AW4. Thing was a pig on the highway but great offroad.

    2015 Jeep Sahara Budget Build

I had a TJ that I tucked 33s under with no lift. Rubbed everywhere. I’ve seen JKs with 35s and no lift and haven’t heard anything good. It’s possible but without hilift fenders I wouldn’t recommend it. I don’t know what week size you’re running, but you can get a 34x10.5r17 KO2. I knew one guy...

[Update 3: Automotive stethoscopes are cool] Yesterday, I borrowed an automotive stethoscope from a buddy of mine. Not something I ever thought about owning. The rattle was coming from the front of the engine. With the steth, I was able to find out that it wasn't actually internal. It was...

    Post Up Your Cockpit

Woah, that's a lot of screen in your face. Especially doorless.

[Update 2b: Really fixed? Maybe? No?] On the underside of the drivers side cylinder head, there are 2 bolts that hold the trans cooler lines to the engine. Be sure to put these bolts back in. If you don't, the short rubber lines that connect between the block and the trans will fall into your...

    The s10 build

From what I can find out, the ZR5 is the same as a ZR2 except with a crew cab (4 doors). Everything that you listed should be able to be swapped over from a ZR5.

[Update 2a: Issues fixed! (?)] Fixed the starter issue. I know I said I fixed it before but now it is 100% fixed. I painted the starter (stupidly) without thinking about the body of the starter needing to be grounded. Pulled the starter, sanded down all contact points with the engine and bolts...

Hey, I could think of worse ways to spend your Sunday. Quick update: Bad engine ground caused the starter issue. Engine didn't get up to temp because I didn't have the fan in yet but did get warm and t-stat opened up. QuickSteel fix holding so far. Will give it a thorough test tomorrow.

    '02 Forester Rig-Lite

[Update 2: The Issues] Spent about 13 hours yesterday with the engine. Real quick rundown: Started at 7am, new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, ignition coil, plugs, wires, and filters all around. Cleaned up gasket surfaces and put on new intake and throttle body gaskets. Got the engine sat...

    '02 Forester Rig-Lite

I’m no stranger to rebuilding motors. My concern was wether or not the cylinder wall would be fubar. I may yet end up keeping the old one instead of turning it in for the core. Would be nice to do an NA build on it. I also follow the bag-n-tag method. Any time I’m unsure of how long things...

Did you forget to compress the caliper fully? Sometimes I think I’ve got it all the way in but it still goes another 1/8” or so.
