Post a pic, make a new photo challenge!

I broke a shock mount near Bridgeport CA...drove home on the front leaf spring only, and added some support braces for the shock hoop in the repair... keep the roadside repairs challenge

    Laurel Lake Rd

Well, ya if snow is significantly blocking the trail, you won't make it to the lake, if you're 2wd vehicle can't handle the trail, you won't make it to the lake.

    Laurel Lake Rd

There are a few tight turns on the trail, especially the final turn down to the lake. A 4runner blew the turn and rolled all the way down the hill to the lake. You might be able to make it in a 2wd, possibly not. Also be aware that the trail can hold snow for awhile, especially in a heavy snow...

    Yosemite help! :)

I would not keep the fridge, or any food items/scented items in your car while you are in YNP, you can receive a stiff fine if you are found having food items in your car. If camping outside the park with food in your car, go for it. Bears are skiddish and easily ran off. I was doing exactly...

Post a pic, make a new photo challenge!

I thought the one and only rule was that your vehicle had to be in the shot? So if waterfall is the challenge, then your truck in front of a waterfall? Action shot: Next challenge is your vehicle with one or more wheels in the air

    My Quest for Tablet Navigation

You download/cache GAIA maps when you have wifi. Then when you get out in the field, your tablet's GPS will position you on the Gaia maps you previously downloaded. This is why choosing a tablet that has GPS is crucial.

    My Quest for Tablet Navigation

not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about running Gaia out in the field? You're not using any wireless service when you're running Gaia out in the field...

    Bumper / winch question

Got a link to the product? Most people think of brush guards as silly add ons that have no practical function or purpose beyond appearance. If the bumper you are referring to fully bolts and integrates to the vehicle frame , then adding a winch should be no issue...

    80/20 roof rack. Any advice?

Have you considered making a rack out of steel? You can get a decent welder and the necessary amount of square tubing for the $600-$700 range. Plus you can pick up a useful skill and tool. I'm not sure what the attraction to 80/20 is, maybe that it doesn't require welding? Won't rust? 80/20 is...

    New Rig Project - 99 Lexus LX470

You'll need wheel spacers, maybe a body lift, UCA's, a BFH might come in handy, and a cutting tool of your choice. There's literally dozens of pages on Mud about running 35s...

    Is this one of us?

The..."there's other junk and debris all over the park" line of reasoning is a poor way to think about things IMO. Let's not start using other people's poor behavior as justification for our situation. I will say that Dedeckera canyon is probably one of the most remote, isolated parts of DV...

    Is this one of us?

For @A-Aron , out of curiosity, when you went to pick up the used axle, why not take the broken axle with you and dispose of it?

    Is this one of us?

Pretty sure this guy posted about busting his axle in Dedeckera canyon, pretty poor behavior if he just abandoned his junk on the side of the trail... https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/saline-death-valley.21477/ Looks like username @A-Aron

Bay Area Meet Up - Presidents Day Trail Ride

DV is 3-4 hours closer to the Bay Area than Anza FWIW. That could equal 6-8 hours less highway time, you also don't need to drive through So. Cal to get to DV. Good luck, wish I could join...

    Dual battery questions

What helped me most when wrapping my head around a dual battery install was reading other folks write ups on their install. Seeing pictures, products used, the end result, was very helpful to me. Here is my write up...

    Tahoe/Rubicon Trail?

There are some seriously short sighted comments on this thread. People who've never even laid eyes on the trail are proclaiming it's not worth their time because a tiny section has been altered? Laughable . What should motivate you to get on the Rubicon is not any one obstacle or challenge, but...
