First welcome to the Hudson Valley. It is beautiful here. There aren't really any trails in the area as most lands are private. The NE BDR does run through the area and has many scenic points to it. Just driving through the Catskills and Adirondacks will give you scenery. To the south is the...
Route 1 goes from NY to Maine, but it will be on road. Staying overnight will probably be in campgrounds along that route. I have been on different parts of 1 through the states and in Maine. I am not sure of any dispersed along the route.
There are many dirt roads to explore in NY and NJ. BDR and Trans NJ trail. I can not speak of the NJ trail as I haven't been on it, but the BDR is fairly tame (mostly dirt roads) with a couple sections that have some loose rocks. There are sections on the forum for both of these routes.
Dutchess like most of NY, is mostly private land. Not many places to explore in the sense of land. If you are in to history, there are many historic sites to see, especially in the Hyde Park area. If you want more info on that, feel free to message me. If you like hiking there are many...
If you go on google, there are a bunch of ski areas not far from N Virginia, looks like most are in West Virginia. There are many hiking trails going through that area, including one of the most famous ones, Appalachian trail. That trail has many spurs.
We have a quick set up ground tent that we used on our cross country trip. Less than 10 min. Setup up. Much cheaper than a rtt but it has to pack into our Jeep with all the bedding. It is nice to be able to leave camp setup if you need to run and get something or go see the sights. Family of...
There is no public lands to speak of and you will have to drive north to find roads to find the adventure you seek. NY is basically the same way. Basically the only places to camp are in campgrounds or designated areas. I live right by Connecticut so I drive there all the time. Most of the...
There is also the Trans New Jersey Trail going through NJ and ending close to the start of the NEBDR. In February, I would say many of the roads in New York and North will be closed due to snow and are also seasonal roads (no maintenance until after April 1). March could go either way.
As far as campgrounds are concerned. Yellowstone is absolutely huge and you did not say what type of camping set up you have. A lot of the areas in and around Yellowstone have hard sided restrictions. I went there in 2019, and when I go back, I would like to stay in the park because of that...
Did the section between Andes and Fleischmanns this past weekend. It was an easy but scenic section of mostly dirt roads. This section could be done using basically any vehicle, other than a commercial truck.
