First short outing in the new rig. After many years in my FJ and iKamper my old bones needed walls and a bed. Building out this 2016 Sprinter 4x4 slowly. I've added a bed, second row seating, Espar diesel heater, Front Runner drop down tailgate table. Next upgrades....tires, suspension, rear...

You can't have a foot in both camps. Unless you have significant resources to build up both the way you want...focus on one build. I love my FJ but there will be a time when I move on.

At $39 per year for 100k in coverage I think it's a cheap option considering the cost for SAR. If you're in the backcountry and need SAR expect a bill. Just because you and I see overlanding 100s of miles away from anything as, "normal," trust me your insurance company as well as SAR services don't.

I've been using this Kovea heater as well for the past couple of years. I love it...very compact and does a great job in my iKamper.

If you're doing any significant distance in the backcountry in Idaho where I live then the answer is certainly yes. Not only for myself but others I travel with.

Your phone? Add an attachment lens if you want to spend extra. I've found if you have a late model phone you should be able to get just as good a shot than spending extra on a cheap camera.

Love the Idaho backcountry. Here are a few shots from an overnight trip.

Gas station. If your going out for any length of time you will need to fill up. I have never had a problem with them allowing me to use their dumpster for regular garbage.
