Who is a Vet, Active or First Responder?

My cousin is an aircraft crash reconstructionist for the gubment. That takes an incredibly gifted brain to be able to work and process those scenes. Kudos to your Dad!!

US Midwest Midwest Jeepthing\'s Annual \"Jeepstock\" event at Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch (SMORR)

For over two decades, Jeepstock has been one of the largest, Jeep-only events in the Mid-West/Ozarks area. This event IS limited to Jeep vehicles. 2023 Jeepstock will again be held at the beautiful SMORR park, which also happens to be the starting point for the SMORR to MOORE Overland Challenge...

Solo trip SIlverton/Ouray/Lake City for July 2023- HELP NEEDED

Looking at centralized camp spots and found Angel Creek Campground. Anyone spent time here? Looks like its just south of Ouray and while small- doesn't look like it would be jammed. I want a place where I can set up base camp and ditch the doors and top of my Jeep. Any and all suggestions are...

    PTSD and Overlanding and "988"

I've been through Glade Top and spent a lot of time at SMORR, but haven't been through Greer Crossing. I love the topography of that region! I'm a couple hours away (just south of St. Louis). Shoot me a message when you're down there and would like to meet up. One of my personal goals this year...

    PTSD and Overlanding and "988"

Your post has THE answer: prayer. Thank you for those prayers, my friend. As for some who act like PTSD is a meme, I agree. It's almost "trendy" now, to have some sort of 'problem". I think many people are looking for validation or recognition, and because of that- everyone seems to be claiming...

    PTSD and Overlanding and "988"

Man, you nailed it with the, "Straw that broke the camels back" line. It's rarely one call or one incident that causes the disorder. It's the compounding of call after call after call that builds up. And when that balloon pops- it's too late. THIS is what I hope the younger generation of...

    PTSD and Overlanding and "988"

First off, many thanks to the admin (Michael, maybe?) who put this section in place here at OB. I logged on the other day and saw it for the first time and it made me smile. I know it's something that was previously discussed and it was great seeing it happened. With that said- I hope it's ok...

Solo trip SIlverton/Ouray/Lake City for July 2023- HELP NEEDED

I do have the Colorado book. I've been a fan of those fun traks books for years. There's some excellent info in them! As with all my travel- I prefer to get with locals as much as possible. Nothing wrong with touristy stuff, but I love getting a good recommendation that can lead me to places the...

Solo trip SIlverton/Ouray/Lake City for July 2023- HELP NEEDED

Greetings my friendly Rocky Mountain types! It has, unfortunately, been many years since I was last in the SW corner of Colorado, and I am looking for help on a few things. I am traveling from St. Louis, MO. to the Alpine Loop area in late July for an approximate 10 days solo overland excursion...

Who is a Vet, Active or First Responder?

Retired LEO. Fifteen years, primarily in North St. Louis. Retired out due to a back injury during an arrest. Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Mobile Reserve Unit, etc etc. Glad to not be getting shot at anymore...

    Blackstone Griddle

I got a Blackstone 17 for Christmas, and look forward to some back country griddle cooking. My only sadness comes from having to use those little green coleman bottles. I have a lifelong hatred of those things, having picked up countless empties people have left behind at camp sites. I bought an...

    Jeep JLUR fridge mount guidance?

Hi all, I am looking for ideas on mounting my ARB fridge/freezer in my JLUR. I had it mounted on a rudimentary slab of plywood in my last rig for a few years. It worked well, but was far from pretty. Looking for guidance on a more professional/cleaner looking mount. It's on a nice slider- just...

For those who have never been to Carlsbad cavern, going near White City, or not sure if it is worth the stop.

Is Guadalupe NP still open? Its closeby and def worth a look. El Capitan (the Texas one) is pretty great!

For those who have never been to Carlsbad cavern, going near White City, or not sure if it is worth the stop.

I did Carlsbad a couple years ago with the girls. I remember nabbing a pretty epic site in the Guadalupe Mountains around 6k feet up. I don't have GPS coordinates, but it was BLM land fairly near Guadalupe National Park.

    Trail Security

Retired LEO here. Having seen the less-than-savory side of humanity FAR too many times, I carry daily. My camp load out in this arena is a Sig 320 X-Carry with hi-capacity magazine and Streamlight TLR. As someone stated earlier- I, too, normally carry concealed, but at camp- I open carry. More...
