    Overlanding Cigar Aficionados

I have a couple different options depending on the length of the trip. I have a small travel case that holds roughly four cigars which I picked up from cigarbid.com for $5. I through a bovine humidifying pack in there and it's good to go. The container is shock proof and fairly water tight. For...

Went out camping for the weekend after a long week. First thing we did was start a fire, open a bottle of wine and burn a stick.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Went out for a weekend of camping with the gf. Simple trial run to see what we can cut from our stuff and what we were missing. Managed to have a great time besides the snow in the evening and 40mph winds in the morning. How we managed to leave home without forks I'll never understand.

    Who likes a big rack?

I like it! What are you putting yours on? I have a fun length roof rack on my FJ and I do love it but man with that much space it's always tempting to carry more stuff and then it just becomes so top heavy.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

I first bought one for my Dodge Dakota years ago and was really unimpressed with it. After how poorly it did and how shitty the quality was (Yakima skyrise 2) I returned it and never intended to get another. When I bought my FJ it came with it and it was large and heavy so I put off taking it...

    RTT - Hardshell vs Softshell???

In regards to roof top tents, I run an ARB Touring (softshell) tent on top of my FJ with the additional annex along with an ARB side awning and walls for it. The roof top tent works fine and is comfortable however my biggest complains are such: 1. Large and blocky and add a substantial height...

    The Wok

We've made bao and steamed dumplings on the wok before with a bamboo steamer while in camp. It helps to make all the dumplings ahead of time by dang is it worth it.

    The Wok

We carry a wok in the FJ. Ours is some second hand one we found at a Goodwill that just keeps going. It's so versatile that it has replaced darn near every cooking pan. You can boil water, fry up food and cook steaks etc etc. I hadn't ever contemplated making popcorn with it however. Solid...

    2008 FJ Cruiser

I took it off some pretty harsh terrain last night and didn't prepare ahead of time because I got complacent. I should have tightened everything again to be on the safe side but I managed to ignore my gut feeling and one of my ARB High Intensity driving lights came unscrewed from all the shaking...

Took it out for some late fall fun before the snow comes. That ARB Tour rooftop tent fits both of us (her 6'4" and me 5'7") comfortably.

    Camp entertainment

It gets cold in Montana and its at the point where it's getting dark real quick so we watch our ipad with a movie sometimes.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Hadn’t been able to take my FJ out for a bit and my gf had never seen the base set up on it so we took it out and expanded everything. I regret it because now she keeps demanding that we take it out every day possible.

I understand your pain Finlay! I have been cutting back on cigars a bit after I started smoking three a day. However I still think it’s one of the most cathartic times I have in my day. Something about some fine tobacco while you ponder whatever you’re facing in life just cuts the stress away

    Overlanding Cigar Aficionados

Unrelated to overlanding, but related to cigars. When I’m not on the trail using my travel humidors I use a simplistic one that sits on my desk. My gf recently surprised me with one she made out of a 1920s travel box that used to sit on the outside of vehicles whenever they’d drive long distances.

What type of FJ do you have in the UAE? Not the old 80 versions? Hmm UAE, that means air force or army.
