FYI, Barney Riley Trail from highway 89 still has the Road Closed sign up, but the washout is passable with a stock 4wd (It is quite narrow though)

Does anyone know if Barney Riley Trail from Hwy 89 is open? I haven't driven by since last year, and it was closed due to a washout then.

Check out caltopo.com for mapping your routes. I find it easier to trace the tracks using caltopo on my laptop, then export them to the Gaia app on my phone. Its also easier to share the route with others in your group beforehand if they don't have Gaia or a similar app. Saline Valley road...

Looks like you had a great time. I did 2 DV trips this year, the last one being 5 days and roughly 250 miles of dirt roads. There is plenty of opportunity to find places to disperse camp if you want to stay away from the campgrounds. Next time you go, camp at Alabama Hills instead of a hotel...

Thanks. It's the discontinued AT Overland JK Habitat (rebranded Ursa Minor J180). They do show up on the used market at expedition portal every once in a while. Ursa Minor currently makes the smaller J30 tent which sleeps 2.

I have the AT Overland rack. It works well, but you are kinda limited in getting things to fit up there by the opening on the hardtop (other brands probably have the same issue).

The gates also stay locked well into the spring to early summer, even after all the snow is melted to allow the mud to dry off. Its open to snow mobile however, and there is some fun backcountry ski/snowboarding to be had there.
