I have the halfgen, so basically half of the Genesis. Seems to work fine, though the igniter is a bit wonky and I had to bend it to get a good spark. I like how it stows up compact and is an easy setup, so I use it when I need to boil some water (fast) for coffee, mostly. I still carry a cheapo...
That's the Raider in the profile pic lol...just dirty :) You on GRM then? My Raider thread here is a carbon-copy of the one over there, I update both at the same time. I used to have a couple threads on ExPo but it runs so slow these days I kind of stopped updating those and moved here.
Not that much of my stuff applies, since yours is a 4-door with more room for stuff, but I have a build thread (right above yours at the moment) that documents my "from scratch" setup that's mostly DIY stuff / on a budgets. Some of it may be of use - and some of it is good ideas I stole from...
I have the 7-gallon Yakima Road Shower on the Sequoia, which has been very useful for camping, racing, and cleaning up messy kids. My plan had been to swap it onto the Raider for camping, but after some checking it's just too big to really fit on the rack easily - plus it's overkill in terms of...
Yeah, that's what I 'm thinking as well. Though after putting it on the Raider, it's probably too big for my weekend camping trips, so I switched the smaller Pelican boxes off the Sequoia onto the Raider today and will probably use it on the bigger truck for family trips only (and will build a...
Not specific to a particular vehicle, but I'll probably use it on both the Raider and the Sequoia depending on the trip. Anyhow, tonight I picked up a secondhand Hardigg Case off marketplace for a couple of Jacksons. Not bad, since it's probably military surplus and I'm sure DoD paid like $800...
With no trips planned for a few weeks, still goofing around with little convenience items and other minor projects, as there's no end to trying to "find places to make things fit" in a truck this small. As with most 80s vehicles, there's very little OEM storage in them. The center console box on...
Finally got around to doing the rear trailing arm bushings, something I didn't do when I originally updated all the suspension because at the time they "looked fine." Well, they don't look fine now:
Luckily, this is actually a pretty easy job - literally just undo three big bolts and drop...
Got the actual shovel. Happy to see my measurements were correct, as it's pretty much a perfect fit for the place I put the mounts, and the bill tucks in nicely about 1" from the propane tank mount, and wraps around. So, mission accomplished there
Small projects this evening, some stuff I've been meaning to get around to.
First off, with the new rear bumper caps I got rid of the janky mudflaps I had, but of course the result of that is that mud and crap will basically just come off the rear tires right into the underneath of the bumpers...
Just to follow up on this, I did build this thing, and here's how it turned out. I did use the 2x2 1/8 square for the whole thing, and it's very, very solid/strong - granted its not holding very much weight. Anyhow, just to add to the idea pile for those who dont' follow my build thread.
I used this stuff, which has the black backing and comes in various roll sizes (I got the 157x39" roll which was plenty for this small rig but probably not enough for a 4-door SUV). There are various other similar ones, this is just the one I happened to get.
Grabbed some of that stuff off Amazon and did some cutting velcro application this morning. Should work just fine. This stuff is kinda cheapo and some of the black backing came off, but it's good enough for my purposes since I don't really sleep during daylight anyhow...
And found...
Thanks - definitely thinking of that as a good solution, especially in the front windows/windshield where stowing curtains is problematic. I may do some roll-ups in the back, we'll see :).
Finishing up the updated interior sleeping arrangement. For those who have been following this a while, the old setup required removal of the front passenger seat, and then I had a 3-foot board with legs that bolted to the seat base to make a flat surface. While that worked fine, it required...
