    My 416 and Bantam builds.

Hey, Thank you. I am a welder/fabricator. I have a CNC plasma table, that I make all the parts you see with designs cut into them. I have a JD2 tube bender, with a bunch of stupid expensive dies. The rear bumper is made from 1.5" sq tube, that I bent with it. The tow points were cut on the...

I do, it helps with the rotation just fine, but the pins are what are constantly getting frozen up offroad. It's not a big deal, just a bit of a pain sometimes. Hammer solves the problem pretty quick. lol

    My 416 and Bantam builds.

Thank you. I am happy with it. 2 years on the m416, two Arizona trips, a bunch of Nevada trips... 1000s of miles without any major issues. It gets sticky after 100s of miles of dirt and washboard and sometimes requires a bit of WD40 to get everything moving again.. but dirt and dust will do...

What was your first vehicle you took exploring.

Nice. My wife has an 82 SR5. Awesome little trucks. Stupid tough, nearly impossible to kill.

    Aluminum vs steel wheels

Why is this such an issue. Wider tires, more traction. More stability. Literally millions of people put wider tires on their vehicle to improve the way they handle offroad. I'm confused...

    Aluminum vs steel wheels

12.5 wide tires don't normally fit on factory wheels, and the offset is normally an issue too. So he's needing at least a 8" wheel, and enough offset in it, to push the wider tires away from the frame and steering parts.

    Aluminum vs steel wheels

Steel. Not a race car. Don't need to accelerate fast. The minor weight difference is negligible when you have a 60lb tire. You can beat on, a steel wheel. You can even weld a steel wheel in the field if you manage to crack it. Not common or likely, but I've seen cracked wheels before...

    Camp Stove

Picked up a new lunch stove for day trips and or backpacking stove. :)

    My 416 and Bantam builds.

Thanks you. The steps and bumper were the first thing I wanted after I used my M416 the first time. It was such a pain getting heavy stuff in and out from the middle of the trailer. Plus they are .120 wall tube with 10g tops, so they are a nice tough "skirt" almost all the way around the...

Why do you say that? It's way quieter then a pintle, and I think it's quieter then a ball. There is no real place for anything to make noise with it.

    Camp Stove

Yeah... it started so innocently. I thought it would be cool to have some 60/70s camping gear to go with my old cruiser. I wasn't even really sure I would use it, just thought it might be fun to go to a car show with the FJ40 full of period camping gear in the back. Then I was hooked. This...

    Camp Stove

Oh man, awesome. I love that stove so much. I like it because it's a bit smaller, and unique. Everyone has a old school Coleman hanging out in their garage, but I had never seen a Sears one before I bought this one. I haven't actually dated mine, I guess I should look sometime. If you ever...

    Biggest failure ever

Snapped a steering arm clean off the knuckle on a dirt forest road in half an inch of snow. The steering wheel spun around suddenly with no resistance and I slide into a tree... huh.. that was odd.. maybe I hit ice... backed up.. nooo.. something's fabared in the steering. I got out and...

    Camp Stove

1960's Sears stove I got at a yard sale for $8. Looked like crap. Sand blasted it, painted it, and it's my favorite stove by far now. Way out preforms propane in cold and high elevation. A couple friends were making fun of my 1960's stove on the Rubicon a few years ago, but it was November...

    Hello, from Grass Valley, CA

Grass Valley is amazing. I really love living here. I am 20 minutes from Tahoe NF, 45 minutes from Fordyce, and hour and half from the Rubicon. More dirt roads, mining relics, semi ghost towns, historical stuff then you could explore in a life time. Plus, the Yuba river, the Bear River, and...

    Hello, from Grass Valley, CA

What's funny, is I haven't taken the top off in two years. :( It's awesome for wheeling, but sucks driving long distances with the top off. The wind just beats the hell out of you. Plus, the cruiser can carry more stuff with the top on, because you can stack it up higher in the back.. and...

What was your first vehicle you took exploring.

My 1968 Honda CT90. Sooooo many dirt roads on this guy... Got it repaired last summer and running again after 15 years of sitting around broken down. Then my FJ40 when I turned 16...

    Hello, from Grass Valley, CA

Thanks. It's in need of some love, but it's been a ton of fun over the years. I am hoping this weekend I can go play with her a bit in the Sierras.

    My 416 and Bantam builds.

That hitch is a design I found online, I modified it a bit, because I was not impressed with the materials used. https://tventuring.com/trailerforum/thread-65.html I will say, building it as is I wouldn't really recommend. I used 1.5" DOM instead of the super thin walled bushings they used...
