    Satellite phone

Another option is with T-Mobile. If you have a newer phone your phone can connect to Starlink Sats when out of service area and you will be able to text message. I think next year you will be able to do voice calls too. Right now it's in beta and can try it with a year free sat service for a year.

    T Mobile StarLink?

I heard it works well. I am on the beta wait list still but will probably get it. I am not on T-Mobile but you can get it for 10 bucks a month if your not on the T-Mobile network. I am on Verizon as it works better in rural areas around here and I am out of service areas in the mountains a lot.

    Well I bought Starlink

I got Starlink prior to the mini coming out. It had helped in keeping in touch with family and unexpected route plan changes. First I had to use the inverter but later put together 12 volt dc option to keep the power consumption down and easier/faster setup. Thinking about added a Bluetooth...

Question: what to do if broken down and no cell service?

Rumer has it once Starlink activates their Direct To Cell service, emergency texting will be available for everyone using their standard LTE phones. They had it activated for the hurricane and from what I here it worked pretty good.

Mr. Buddy Heater Question - Outdoor Use, Dispersed Camping

As already stated, the Buddy Heater is not going to help outdoors. If you want heat inside a tent then I would recommend a diesel heater. For outdoor heat nothing beats a wood fire. You can use a propane fire pit but it will not produce the heat as a wood fire.

    Field Comms

I use a dual band VHF/UHF programed for GMRS and MURS. I also use a CB on the logging roads to avoid the log trucks. Usually not a problem on the weekends but if your out during the week it's good to have.

    Backcountry Internet Gear/Providers

You have to have a home starlink service first and this is an add-on to your home service. 30 bucks more a month for 30 gigs and 1 dollar more for each additional gig you use beyond the 30 gig.

    Backcountry Internet Gear/Providers

I use starlink and for the most part have not had issues getting connected. Only once I was not able to get service and that is because we picked a spot that was completely under trees. I live in Oregon so lots of trees west of the Cascade. I got it for safety and use wifi calling so I can use...

    Satellite Communicator--Which is Best Deal?

I opted for a Starlink which has been reliable for me and gives me the ability to actually make phone calls to communicate in detail any issue I may be having in case of an emergency. Plus it gets me Internet in remote areas so I can update maps and do research if i want to change plans once out...

    Handhelds or vehicle mounted

Lots of good info already posted. I have a dual band mobile so that I can use GMRS and MURS. MURS is VHF which gets better range and use GMRS when with people that don't have the MURS channels. The radio will monitor both bands at the same time I just have to switch to what I want to transmit...

Deep Cycle battery upgrade - advice wanted

Yes I know what the differences are and yes I am talking about the AGM. Both types have different charging requirements where AGM it is suggested to use a DC to DC charger since the charge voltage 14.6 and should be defiantly used for LifePo4. I am just not sure how well the AGM handles heat.

Deep Cycle battery upgrade - advice wanted

If your going to put it under the hood, just get a lead acid deep cycle. Then all you need is a isolator to connect the two. AGM Batteries are more for places where you don't want acid leaking from the battery and I have read that they don't like the heat generated in the engine compartment...

    Owyhee Discovery Trail Route needed

I would rather not since it starts from my home and don't want everyone to know that location.

    Owyhee Discovery Trail Route needed

I sent you the info. Leslie Gulch is on the map but we bypassed it. I would think you would come down 84 to Vale and go from there.

Starlink w/ truck mount or SL base

Cool idea, I just find a good spot and put mine on the ground. If it is windy I will put a rock on the stand.
