    Thoughts on bivy sacks?

Ah, I didn't realize the width restriction. That sounds like a great idea! No more roots or rocks under your back. And a lot cheaper than even the most basic adventure trailer. New ideas suddenly pop into my head... :)

Project Fauxverlander 200 Series Land Cruiser Build Thread

Damn you, Kurt! Once we committed to buying the new 4Runner last spring, I avoided MUD so I wouldn't regret not getting a used 200 every time I saw this wonderful machine!:hearteyes::hearteyes:

    XPLOR-R - 200 Series

Beautiful Rig! This was what I really wanted instead of my new 4Runner, but just couldn't do the additional $15-20k. Next time...

Need Feedback - New Regional Overland Bound Patches

Yes for member number, and since I'm midwest, I like #14. Or 12 or the unnumbered one, but not #13 with the sun radials. Once upon a time, we were going to be doing rockers for the current patch with our region underneath. Is this instead?

Who did you grow up with?

Sea Hunt and Jacques Cousteau were responsible for my undersea interest. The '60s Daktari TV show was my introduction to Africa (as well as old Tarzan and Jungle Jim movies) But shows like Wild Kingdom, National Geographic, and Marty Stauffer were the mainstay of my exposure to wild places. We...

    What should we take?

That's the beauty of Overland Bound; no one here will judge your choice of transportation. We'll only cheer your encouragement to get out and explore!

    Thoughts on bivy sacks?

@maktruk I don't have one, but I really like the Outback Swag line. But these are really more one-man tents than true bivy sacks, which are barely more than a waterproof sleeping bag with a hoop over your face. Looking at one-man tents should open your options quite a bit. I use an old Eureka...

    What should we take?

Here are some places to start: Overland Trip Planning: What do you NEED to Check? The Ultimate Overland Checklist Of course a lot depends on where you plan to go and for how long, what conditions you expect, how far off-grid you'll get, etc. And we *must* see photos of this bus!! Welcome aboard.

Off Road trailer with raising deck/platform for Roof tent/awning.

Most likely not what you are thinking, but it may help you think outside the box. https://taxaoutdoors.com/ultra-light-trailers/cricket-camper-trailer/

rtic coolers are on sale currently

Oh, I completely understand and agree! I was a draftsman, then new product designer for Rockwell Power Tools (now Delta) and then RIDGID pipe working equipment for 36 years. In both cases a lot of time and money was spent in litigation against patent infringement.

Need help with mounting an awning

The ARB awning slot spacing is about 1-7/8" center to center. I used a Foxwing mount for my ARB awning and drilled an extra hole for the appropriate spacing.

    Trophies, Badges, and Ranks!

Yep, mine dropped too. My Influencer III badge went away, and I dropped in rank 7 levels and lost 605 points. @Michael, didn't this happen sometime last year, too?

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

Are you really after the "best tent" as your title suggests, or the best bang for the buck, best tent under $XXX, etc.? There are several really nice tents out there well over $1000, and really nice, usable ones under $100. Here's a list of threads here on Overland Bound where we have discussed...

East Tennessee Overlanders - Winter Run Video

Another excellent video, Kevin! What a great muddy time. I enjoyed the music, too, and took note of the credits.

    Solar Panels?

You are very welcome, and no trouble at all! Our search is finicky. By default, it only searches in the forum you are currently in, so you have to remember to uncheck the "search this forum only" check box. It also won't return any results when searching for three-letter or less items, which we...

    RIDGE MONKEY TOASTER

Interesting! Here in the US, we have similar device called a Pie Iron, but made from cast iron. Anyone else use Pie Irons?

    Solar Panels?

I definitely don't mean for this to sound like a "Do a search" post, as our search takes some trickery to get the best results. But here are several threads on solar panels and controllers. I need to merge several of these at some point...
