Camp Edison Campground and Dinkey Creek Campgorund are great, otherwise there are many dispersed areas off rock creek, dinkey creek road and closer to tamarack.

Depending on how many people, and the obstacles, about 2 hours to get to bald, and then back again. If Tamarack is open, that route is super easy, and fast, but not a ton of technical. Not saying the route from Rock Creek is technical, but it does provide a couple opportunities for spotters...

I grew up going to Capitol Drive In - Fond memories being smuggled in to see Raiders of the Lost Ark! Wish it wasnt a weekday night, we would make the drive down! Maybe next time! Great fun, and lifetime of memories!

Didn't get any pics, but was super amazed at how many people were within the dispersed camping and parking areas! No room to setup a big camp, and no need as well due to the time needed to see the Expo!

Pretty sure you will be fine as it doesn't seem to get overly crowded until after the memorial day weekend, and even in that respect it doesnt feel very crowded during the summer, compared to other areas.

Might be able to do June 02... We really need to check the forest service though. The gate is Open but they stated last week the run is closed.. I will check again, but would be up for a run on that Saturday. I will have a 9 yr old and 2 year old with me.

We arrive too late to get into the camping area Friday.. Stinks they will not let us in after dark, but I understand why. We will try to secure a spot on Saturday morning.
