I totally get that feeling. I do think it can be done on a very tight budget, though, because that's exactly how I'm doing it. I bought my 1999 Honda CR-V for $1800 Canuck bucks off of Craigslist. I bought a set of tires for it for around 500 or so, which cash came from the sale of my old mini...
Sounds good. At this moment, I wouldn't recommend trying the crossing without a lift, but the water level can change significantly in not a lot of time, so who knows. Have you done your diff and tranny breathers?
I think it would take me about an hour to an hour and a half to get up to Bremner...
I've never been to clear creek, no. What rig are you driving? I was thinking if you end up on West Harrison next Saturday, I might be able to pop up to meet you at Bremner Creek to try to help with the water crossing. I know two possible routes for it, and I could even potentially help...
Hey there!
Yes, actually the old bridge has been cleared, new support beams have been laid, and apparently some road improvement work is being done on either side of the bridge. It seems like the bridge is coming soon. As for the water crossings, presently there's been a ton of rain, so I think...
Yeah, for sure. I think the backpacking mentality of pack less, pack light serves overlanders quite well. The concept with mine there is interoperability - I can take down the blue cases from my rig and put them straight into the boat as seats if I need to. The entire setup, the rig and the boat...
I haven't done a ton of boat-based camping, but I have done a couple of trips. One in a canoe, and the other in my current "water rig" the Intex Mariner 3 with 3hp Sears Gamefisher. In both cases, space was a major consideration. I took a fair bit of gear on the inflatable, but nowhere near the...
Nearly finished the floor for my Intex Mariner 3. The boards are 1/2 inch plywood with 2 thick coats of Thompson's water seal, hinges are cut from a crazy carpet snow sled. Just need a couple of touch ups and I'll be done. I suspect this floor is actually lighter than the roll up slat floor.
Better pic of its current state:
Taken at BC Overland Rally 2019. Next mod will probably be limb lifters. Hoping to do the suspension lift springs and Bilstein shocks perhaps early next year. It really needs that extra 1.75 in of lift.
That looked like an awesome trail ride. I'm always torn when I go to BCOR because there's too many amazing things to do and see that happen all at once.
Did the drone seminar at BCOR. Interestingly, any drone less than 250g in weight is totally unregulated in Canada. There are some very interesting drones under 250g... Just saying.
The "easy" trail ride turned into a muddy mess at the end that required winching. Even a twin locked 60 series on huge tires could go nowhere. It was fun! This was the result:
