Andrew, you should take a look at going north in Vermont and traveling across Canada to Sault St Marie! I do that now and love it. Puts you in the Michigan UP and a few Nationals to drive through. This is my route for this May as I go west again. This is mostly Forest Roads!!
As you clear the Parries of SD the fun really starts at the Badlands National Park. Come in on the West Side and just before the entrance to the park you'll see a radio tower on your left. Free paces to camp along the 'Wall'.
At least drive through Deadwood SD (you won't have time to go in...
I'm switching over from dual 6v's this spring. My battery is already here and will be buying the DC/DC shortly (going with this Renogy DC/DC 20a). I rarely stay put over 3 days, so last trip (6,800 miles) we took out the solar panel almost by habit vs. requiring. That was charging the LA's from...
This will be the second time crossing as I head westward to South Dakota to see family. Last time we ran along Lake Superior and enjoyed the run! This time I hope to run through Hiawatha NF and Chequamegon-Nicolet NF. Hiawatha NF seems to be split E/W by the Superior State Forest...
Anyone...
You can load the .gpx file into Google Maps as well. That way you can still view and look around a bit. I went Gaia Pro ($$) mainly to get Canada Backroads Mapbooks. Several other features come along with Pro (mainly USA based) that I really like.
New Brunswick has it's own site as well. This...
I've truly embraced technology! I learning Gaia GPS and with this Backroads Canada it just shows so much info. I think I still have some maps around here... LOL
Our first retirement run was the Maritime Run and very much enjoyed it ! I felt we ran through lower NB to quick and this run is to...
I'll post up as we get closer to it. My hope is to have the truck camper built for the run (even if just shell and weather tight). End of May we're with family in SD, so earliest would probably be late June/early July.
I've been up in the Saint-Louis de Kent area when we did our Nor'east...
Has anyone explored into the State owned abandoned railroad bed system? Seems there's some 330 miles of it in our state! Also seems the state is interested in making a bit of it available for use. My question is... you know of any around you and is it gated/posted?
Update: Just came back from...
Hmm.. Florida.. First thought, gators and I'd want an RTT (get off the ground).. Just me..
Seriously, RTT's are really cool and have come a long way! No longer just some small thing over the bed of the truck. The beauty of that is it leaves the truck bed open for storage & slide outs (like the...
Kent, who would be the OB person to talk to about using the OB name for a special permit to Overland State property? I'm based in NH and have contacted the State about opening some gates for us to do an organized run.
As I crossed back from the Sou'west and easterly I found the south has a Foodie Run and a Blues Run that sounded kinda neat. Then as I drove north up the Appalachians I forgot just how much Civil War history there is in this area. What I'm alluding to... It's not just a backroad/woods run, it's...
I'm driving through again the May and hoping to drive through Hiawatha NF and Superior SF and do a E/W drive through. The OP my also be interested in this and I'm very curious about the NF & SF. Also looking for a MVUM for the SF (if there is one) to learn restrictions.
I'm out of NH and will say that anytime I head easterly now I go through Canada. Much nicer run! You actually cross in NY (about 5 mins in NY) and cross back in Sault Ste Marie. This runs you through the Michigan UP. My next run over (Mid-May) I'll explore a route through Hiawatha NF (about 260...
