Jasper is pretty amazing, although I haven't been to Banff yet. Any chance you will be attending the Alberta Outdoor Adventure Expo on Labor day weekend?
If your travels bring you out to the Edmonton area, let me know and I'd love to try to arrange a meetup for coffee! Thanks for sharing the...
I really like those 2nd gen Dakotas, and I considered getting one before I bought this one. I really love the styling on my third gen the best.
It has a similar size and setup to a Tacoma, but a fraction of the cost. The local Toyota dealership wanted $66k+ for a base model Tacoma with crappy...
Downside of mounting them inside the cab is when you need to put that nasty, muddy, filthy flat tire in place of the spare.
Now that I think about it, you're saying your Suburban is "old" - what year is it? I thought the old ones with the barn doors had a factory option for one?
If not, I bet...
My first mod was to install a pair of 10,000 lb recovery hooks:
The body member that runs in front of the radiator was pretty rusty, and since I was blasting the holes in the frame rails inside and out with anti-rust paint as well as the ends of the frame rails where the bumper bolts on, I...
I'm very blessed that my work phone has unlimited data, and my employer has no issue with us tethering to our phone and working from almost anywhere. I often go out to the "bush office" to work. Nothing like an office with a camp fire!
Blasted a whole bunch of rust off the "beam" that runs in front of the radiator. So much rust dust was coming off I had to wear my respirator lol Hopefully the blasts of anti-rust paint will help preserve the vehicle a little longer than it would otherwise last.

I didn't bother...
Mounted a pair of 10,000lb rated recovery hooks to the front frame rails. Next will be to blast off some of the rust on the front body member, then move on to blasting off the rust from the lower doors and rockers and making a sweet rattle can two tone paint job.
edited to add pics.
Hey all!
Wanted to post this since I haven't seen much about it here:

I bought my tickets already. Looks to be similar to BC Overland Rally, which I've attended twice before Covid hit and was an absolute blast. Hope to see some OB members out there!
Outstanding debrief! I wonder if you served in the military, because your after action report is very detailed.
Let me say, thank you so much for having the courage and humility to share your experience so that the rest of us can learn from both the good and the bad. I'm not afraid to say that...
Hello fellow Overlanders!
Due to a confluence of unforseen circumstances, I was forced to give up my cherished 1999 Honda CR-V adventure rig and purchase a new vehicle. As we recently moved to an acreage in the country, I had a need for a pickup for the first time in my life for hauling hay...
You can almost always do that, it's just a question of how much money you want to spend lol
That's my big problem. 6 kids and a huge mortgage now with the bigger property we bought, not a ton of cash left for adding doodads or improvements to my new old truck.
Outstanding pics! Many thanks for sharing. Nice to know the NWT is "open" again without anyone hassling travellers.
I'll never forget Ray Hyland's hilarious story about being the first to drive the summer road to Tuk. When they stopped in at the general store/post office/town hall to ask where...
