    Bigfoot

Brother, that's a heck of a story! It keeps bringing to mind a quote from Hamlet: "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

    Overlanding/Camping Firearm preference

I have an 18 inch barrel on my 870. I might try to source a short barrel for it. Currently I live in Alberta, so I don't spend as much time in bear country as I used to, so the 9mm carbine is fine for wolves and coyotes on the off chance I have a problem with them.

    Overlanding/Camping Firearm preference

Now I find this info about 9mm extremely interesting. I previously took a 12 gauge shotgun into the bush, but found it a bit unwieldy. Another option is a folding 9mm carbine, and it sounds like 9mm even from handguns is highly effective, so out of an 18.6" barrel, it should be even more...

    Dealing with other people's nasty

Awesome work, brother! Keep it up. I recently encountered some "white roses" at a little bush camp spot not far from home beside a lake. Fortunately they were very old and weathered, and didn't appear to have been used for No.2, probably No.1 or something else. I picked them up with a stick and...

    Ice road trip 2018

Awesome write up! In the past week or so I've been musing over the idea of doing a winter expedition to Fort Chip and perhaps Pine Point (what little is left of it. I expect in the winter there's no point in going there, as all it would be is a giant snow field). Did you go all the way to Fort...

Books that Inspired You to Get into Overlanding

In my opinion, one of the most awe inspiring, beautiful and poignant true adventure books ever written is Dersu the Trapper, by Vladimir K Arseniev. It tells the incredible story of three separate expeditions by the Russian Imperial Army into the taiga of Siberia, and Captain Arseniev's...

    Northern Wanderings

I fell in love with the North as soon as I moved there. I still miss it, and I hope someday to return for another expedition, hopefully hit the spots I wasn't able to reach on this go round. Cheers and thanks for commenting!

BC Roverlanders Canol Road expedition 2009!

Watching this again, and it's just as incredible an expedition as the first go round. It's cool that they went back in 2011 to try again, but sadly didn't make it due to weather, although they did get a fair bit further on the second try. I'm also struck by how the so-called controversy over...

    Bigfoot

That's hilarious. I'm afraid I never partake, though, sorry to disappoint. My brain is naturally this weird.

    Before you Buy Rooftop Tent

I'm quite happy with it. It's my poor man's tacoma. Very similar specs, $63,000 cheaper.

    Before you Buy Rooftop Tent

Funny enough, since my initial post in this thread, I actually did acquire a new rig, an 06 Dodge Dakota V8, and subsequently an incredible deal on a clamshell RTT came up, and I ended up buying it. Having lots of experience with ground tents and my cot tent, I have to say, I absolutely love...

    Bigfoot

Weird. Where are the rest of the footprints? It looks by the angle and direction of the steps that there should be more footprints behind those two. Did you consider tracking/backtracking to see if you could tell where it came from or went?

    Bigfoot

How awesome would it be if Bigfoot was legit a member of Overland Bound and was trolling us with photos of his own footprints? lol

    Desert Photos

Wow, what a fantastic collection! Makes me want to visit the semi-deserts of the BC interior and snap some pics! :D

    Tillamook Forest

I hear that! Weight was a massive factor with my tiny little CR-V and its 120hp 4 banger engine. It's less of a concern with my Dakota's 4.7L v8, but I keep the lessons learned from the CR-V build in mind and opt for lighter weight whenever I can.

    Tillamook Forest

Love you rig! I looked into getting one of those once upon a time. They're a bit hard to come by in my part of the world though. Love the build as well, very nicely kitted out.

    Northern Wanderings

Hey, brother! Thanks for the kind words, and thank you for your service :) I often joke that I should start a youtube channel called "Ghettoverlanding" because all my gear is pretty dirt cheap, including my rigs. Ganbaru cost me $1800 Canuck bucks, which was a steal of a deal, but even now a...

    Northern Wanderings

A torrential, unrelenting downpour began at around 2200h the previous night and was still going by 0730 the next morning. We had forgotten to move the chairs under the canopy, so they and virtually everything else was drenched. Nearly the whole bay was socked in with low cloud and mist. Given...

    Northern Wanderings

The weather continued to be overcast with occasional drizzles when we awoke the next morning. After a good breakfast and some coffee, we packed up camp and headed off back the way we came. Our next target of the expedition was a ghost town on the Skeena River named Port Essington. My map recce...

    Bigfoot

I had an interesting experience in the woods of BC which at the time I didn't think of as a bigfoot encounter. I had taken a couple of my kids up East Harrison for a bush campout for a couple of nights, and despite it being unfortunately quite busy in the area, we managed to find a nice little...
