I think it just comes to preference. For a while there were pretty much no fullsize overland rigs... when I first started building my F150 I was getting soo much backlash from people saying that a fullsize will not work as a overland rig.....

yup... I drive from simi valley to LA every day for work so a total of around 100 miles a day.... Knock on wood that I haven't gotten into an accident yet but I like knowing I have the camera just in case something ever happens.... I have a 32 gig card in it too....

If your looking for a winch that can be moved around ARB makes a cradle that mounts to a 2" receiver hitch.. you would just have to make a front bumper with a receiver hitch and your good to go... def go with the 16.5k winch for that size of a rig.....

Is it 4wd? are you going to level it out? If the answer to those questions is NO... then you could maybe squeeze 33" tires (depending on width and wheel backspacing) with some slight trimming and rubbing....

Welcome aboard.... I built a 2000 diesel excursion back in the day.... as far as suggestions on tent, winch ect. I would first ask what you plan to do suspension wise. A good set of tires and possibly lockers can get you out of situations where a winch would be needed...

Yes it's so far the most versatile. I do miss having a completely covered shell sometimes though. Depending on the trail dust will cake all the gear in the bed since it's all open...
