    Air Bag Jack?

I have but have never had to use it. It packs fairly small. I had seen them used by emergency services back on the job and I liked the concept. I also try to carry a board or two for chocking a jack. You never know what kind of base you may have to deal with. When I pull a trailer I have a...

    Overpacking

Some stuff I take I hope I never need. Being far away from help or just not wanting to depend on others necessitates planning/packing for eventualities. Then, there is food and cookware. I take way too much food because I usually grab something when on the move and like to try the local...

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

I've been running one on my Tacoma DC for about five years now and don't feel I have lost much in nimbleness or performance. I did add some rear air bags/cushions that greatly reduced some roll in some situations. Tacomas never were great on gas mileage but I don't much care since it will go...

    Be Aware: Overlanding is Exhausting

The thing is, getting old sucks and ones body doesn't bounce back like it used to. All those miles seems to take a toll on my neuro/muscular systems. I have a problems sitting still and staying put for any length of time. Especially when I am in an area I have never been. I want to keep...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Technology and all the new fabrics, composites, lighter, smaller, more powerful batteries, gear, etc., has made things exponentially more comfortable, safe, efficient, allowing more time to explore, relax, FISH! The good old days as a kid when a heavy, smelly army surplus tent and sleeping...

    Midnight Forest water tanks

My solution for washing the vehicle is to pull into a small stream and unlimber the telescoping brush. Finding just the right stream is the trick.

    Hardshell rtt leak

Sloshing, Woah! Not familiar with that problem, but wreckormend calling the company asap. I got my hardshell replaced under warranty and it wasn't leaking. Can you identify where the leak might be? What is the shell made of? Send Pics! I fix small boat leaks with waterproof Gorilla Tape but...

    Off-road alone.

Just wait until you get in relationships and situations with people and wish you could be alone! The drama can be energy draining. Be careful what you wish for! Even with my best friends I seem to spend a day or two with and I seek the high lonesome again. Could be a little selfish in that...

There are other options in the area for dispersed -like camping. There is CG at Burrell's Ford. Campsites for tenting are about 1/4 mi. from parking lot. Parking lot might be an option but not level. There is a place on Hwy 28 at Long Bottom Ford and up a nd down that dead end road. Not an...

    2017 Toyota Tacoma Overland Rig

What engine/transmission? Gas mileage? I have 2017 Limited with some upgrade and RTT. I have the V-6 and get close to 14 mpg loaded with gear. That's mostly downhill:astonished: I was looking at the AluCab but looks kinda heavy.

Small solar trickle charger? please comment if you have experience w/ this!

This looks like what I've been looking for. Seems like a fairly new product from Renology. https://www.renogy.com/200-watt-12-volt-flexible-monocrystalline-solar-panel/?utm_source=criteo&utm_medium=display&utm_campaign=lowerfunnel Now, if I can figure out how to secure it on my RTT? Anyone...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

I see your ALPHA is losing it's gel coat. Keep a close eye on it. It could develop some fissures in the underlayers. They now recommend keeping the hard cover waxed. They actually replaced mine for free since it was an early version without the recommendations.

    Stove of choice

Good point. I always close the tank valve, then open the knob on the stove for 2 seconds just to release a little pressure. Then disconnect line from stove and tank. Not sure I was really doing any good, it just seemed like a logical progression. Also, besides being nearly indestructible, the...
