Alex, I think what you describe is more inline with a ignition control module going bad, or a bad contacts on the ICM. I wish I could tell you how to diagnose this problem, but I don’t know what voltages should be present at the ICM and the ignition coil secondary windings.

@KRose had this idea 2 or 3 weeks a go. We are just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. Unfortunately my tent is too big to set up in our living room.

Do you need help finding one that will work for you? Make sure if you get a Bluetooth one that your device is compatible before you order... try downloading the app for it in other words. I had one that I had to run a disk in my computer to configure my smartphone only to find it didn’t work.

What year is your XJ? Amazon sells blue tooth OBDII Scan tools as well as code readers for the old OBDI systems. They can both be had with a little shopping a round for under $30.00

Only show stopper in my 20 minutes of playing around in the app is when viewing a conversation I have been having since February I can’t get past the first page... there isn’t an option to go to the second page or even the 9th page... other normal threads can however navigate between pages.
