What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Very nice! I can't wait to see that stuff on and get your report on how it performs. -TJ

    Beginning My Overlanding Journey

Yeah, I'm not sure why people "sleep on" (as the kids say) the Pro-4Xs lineup. I bought my Xterra Pro-4X used last year, and I think I paid about half as much as a similarly equipped, similar year/mileage 4Runner would have been. If you look at the new Frontier Pro-4X vs. a new Taco TRD Pro...

Overland Bound Forum - Why it is important to use the forum rather than decentralised chats.

I agree 1000% and see a lot of the issues of using Social Media or bespoke messaging apps in other "communities" I'm a part of. Way too much knowledge is lost, or at least not easily searchable when it's posted in a message app, IG, FB, etc. Forums "are forever" and the wealth of knowledge...

    Beginning My Overlanding Journey

Welcome, and congrats on starting the journey. I've said it before in other threads, but I really REALLY like those new Frontier Pro-4Xs. -TJ

    New 2022 Jeep Gladiator Build

Congrats on your dream rig, a Gladiator (especially on 37"s) is extremely capable and probably one of the very best platforms for an Overland build. As to your question about rack and bed cover vs. a cap, really only you can answer that. I do like the idea of one or the other, to protect your...

    New Baby FJ

Nice, it looks good on those TRD wheels, were those stock, or from something later-model like a Tacoma or 'Runner? -TJ

    Tire suggestions

As a guy that runs on M/Ts... I'll say for MOST Overlanders A/Ts are better. In fact, I wanted A/Ts but with COVID supply issues the only tire I could find in about the size I wanted was the Toyo M/T. As it turns out, it's for the best because it's the only tire in any of the sizes I...

Overlanding a little "differently" this weekend...

It really is. Funcos slide and "flat-track" like no other, it's almost like having a drift car for the sand. -TJ

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

Yeah, the IFS/IRS clearance advantage over anything solid axle is something to consider. The lack of articulation obviously introduces other issues, but when it comes to pure ground clearance IFS/IRS will win for any given tire size. -TJ

New to me, DIY Camp Trailer

    Electric overlanding

I used to be anti-electric in general, probably just because I've been a life-long hot rod guy. ~6mo of borrowing a buddy's Model 3 Performance certainly changed my mind some. That said, I've done the math in another thread on this forum and EV Overlanding is a long, long way off. Solar panel...

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

Gotcha, all-in-all not bad for what it is. My stock '12 Xterra gets similar (16.5 MPG going from Vegas to the Bay Area at ~80 MPH) with the stock roof-rack in place, just as a point of reference (full-frame SUV with a real t-case and low range as well as a locking rear diff and 32"s at stock...

    Considering a 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500

I have a '11 Silverado 2500 HD with a FWC and I *love* my rig. I've owned it since new, and will own it for the rest of my life. Mine has lived many lives over the years, from daily driver and occasional race car tow rig, to 40' 5th wheel tow rig, to it's current solid-axle-swapped exploration...

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

Very fair points. They say "the best Overlander is the vehicle you already own" so I totally get that. And if it also serves as your DD the comfort, MPG etc. all make sense. At some point if you find it's holding you back from getting places you want to go, I'm sure you'll look into another...

Honda Ridgeline/ Pilot Stock VS Lifted Uwharrie Offroad (AWD Festival 2022)

As annoying as I find it when people just post their YT content to pump-up views without any additional insight or conversation, it was kind of interesting seeing the AWD rigs make it through some decent obstacles. Still, I just kept thinking "why"? I guess many would say that about my...

Overlanding a little "differently" this weekend...

That would be a really cool rig! Keeping it light to preserve parts would be the key, IMHO. -TJ
