    GMRS vs. HAM

It's literally the link he provided in his post. That link takes you to an article on the Jeep Jamboree website and in the title in large, bold, letters it says " CB TO BE REPLACED BY FRS/GMRS TWO-WAY RADIOS IN 2021" https://jeepjamboreeusa.com/cb-replaced-by-frs-gmrs-two-way-radios/

Jeep Gladiator Top Dog overland concept

Sued by who? I'd imagine when they get sponsored by a million companies and companies like Toyota and Jeep that part of the deal is the company can rip off whatever they want from their ideas of a build.

    Beavers Bend/Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Watch out for Side by sides in that area. It'll probably be too chilly for swimming but there's a nice pull off here that has running water and it's about waist deep so you can float around in it if you want. Nice little site if you like the sound of a creek...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Got the interior wiring knocked out, got the tail wiring mostly done except for the grounds, and got the engine bay wiring harness laid out. Waiting on the copper tubing kit for the oil pressure gauge, removed the wiper hardware out of the old windshield frame, hand pained the Jeep embossing on...

Jump Box, Jumper Cables or Both?

The "Magic box" is quite good to have when there's no one around to give you a Jump. My dead battery can't jump itself. Well if it's got a little left in it you can use one of those other "magic boxes" that uses a capacitor.

Jump Box, Jumper Cables or Both?

The one time you need to jump yourself or someone else and don't have cables......the battery pack will be dead or malfunction :tearsofjoy:

Starlink finally stars public beta testing. Overland comms game changer?

This could be awesome for those that work remote and are able to travel AND work. Now instead of making sure they make it to a town or area with suffecient cell service they can pop up their Starlink setup next to the Alpine lake in the middle of BFE do their work and never have to packup camp.

    Wyoming Hams

Anybody else out there do their own body work and paint their vehicles themselves?

You can certainly tell where I bondoed on this job. But it's a work/play Jeep not a show Jeep so I called it good so I can get the job moving forward.

Anybody else out there do their own body work and paint their vehicles themselves?

I just tried my hand at body work and paint for the first time on this CJ. My bondo work was pretty bad. I did rattle can this project which I was quite happy with quality wise..........until I tried to fix a few minor spots and completely messed up one side. Doh!

Starlink finally stars public beta testing. Overland comms game changer?

That's honestly not much more than I'm paying for Hughes net right now. The only option where I live and it's total garbage. I'll be interested to see the uplink/downlink speeds when they bring it on line.

I would spend winters out there, Ocotillo Wells, Joshua Tree ect, then during the spring and summer move back into the mountains.

    GMRS vs. HAM

There's more to it than wattage and many HAM radios can't match up to those other requirements. Bandwidth settings come to mind. I'm sure technically they can but the software to run them doesn't allow the correct bandwidth settings. Many older commercial radios do .

    Dehydrated meals - any recommendations?

I'm not a foodie. Food is just something I have to consume inorder to stay alive. I could do so much more if I didn't have to eat and sleep. So my meals tend to be quick and easy. That being said I don't regularly use the freeze dried meals. They greatly increase the amount of water you...

    Little buddy heater??

Mine did/does. I have a Drager CO detector hanging in the Jeep. After about 20 minutes of running in my closed up XJ it was 1)very hot in there, hotter than I would ever like and 2) the Drager showed about 15ppm CO. When myself and my daughter went on a trip to NM I ran it in the Jeep to...

Antenna mounting - power v. height

Don't focus on gain too much. In many instance for what we do where we're in varied terrain the higher gain antennas can be detrimental to our use. THe higher the gain the more the signal is "pinched". It projects the signal more towards the horizon vs something like a unity gain or 3db gain...

    GMRS vs. HAM

I got my HAM tech license first then later got my GMRS license. Around here I use the GMRS a lot more often. The local GMRS repeater is far more active than any of the 5 or so HAM repeaters we have. We've been pushing more for the local Jeep Club to adopt GMRS/FRS as kind of the official club...
