Last time I was up in that area was 2016. Was pretty empty then.
Unfortunately for those who like to get out there away from everyone else this is what it's going to be like for the foreseeable future.
It's still pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things. 7 bucks a year. People blow more than that in one trip to a fast foot joint. Skip that trip to McDonalds once a year and you've paid for your whole family's licensing fee.
If the FCC has their way even HAM licenses won't be free. The...
I'm not too picky and I tend to rotate brands. I've got a bottle of Tapatio right now I'm working though in the house, the last one was Chalula. My go bag I pack with me to work I even keep a bottle in the side pocket for those long calls which right now is the Jalapeno Tabasco.
Threw a couple of recovery hooks on the CJ5, one on each end, and changed the oil on one of the motorcycles.
Yesterday I welded the tailgate back together at the latch points. I think one of the previous owners hung a spare tire off of the tailgate which caused these points to rip. I...
@TroutRunner Both. I keep a few FRS handhelds in the Jeep for spotting use and for handing out to the non licensed. But I also have HAM and GMRS handhelds.
I'm setup for HAM, GMRS and CB. The CB sits on the table in my garage 99 percent of the time but can be swapping into the spot I have...
You only need that for commercial use. I.E. you're using your drone to make money, like a lot of the full time youtubers do. If you are just flying for fun or for your own purposes, it's not needed.
Many of the Chinese radios will still go "out of band" out of the box. Even after the FCC "Crackdown" on such things being sold. Two of my buddies recently bought Baofeng handhelds and mobiles. They all go out of band.
As far as antennas. I get acceptable GMRS performance out of my dual...
Awesome thanks for sharing your experience. I've got a bunch of those wide v shaped military tent states that are used for large GP tents. Should do the trick.
One of the biggest thins I miss about living in California is the Anza Borrego and Ocotillo areas. I was stationed out there for a few years and would spend fall/winter down in the desert and spend the summers up in the mountains such as around Toro Peak and around Idlwylde and whatnot. Much...
I have a 2 burner propane stove from Academy (Magellan Brand) and a 20 dollar cast iron griddle also from Academy. If I want to cook something in a pot I just leave the griddle there and put the pot on the griddle. It helps even out the heat going into the cookware.
The big T4 with the "sun room" or whatever it is, is on the future purchase list for me. If it's just me my little Kelty 3 person works fine. But when I take the family places me, wife, 2 kids, however many dogs my wife can sneak into the Jeep. You quickly run out of room.
How does everyone...
Ya'll have got me wanting to get into a half decent air rifle for plinking at home. I've got some gas powered blow back airsoft guns that are replicas of my primary rifle and handgun, I use for at home training when I can't get to the range or just want to practice mag changes other drills...
Looks like a decent enough radio for 150 dollars. I run a Btech UV25X2 in the XJ because of it's size. It's very similar form factor to this Midland/TYT unit, maybe a bit smaller.
Midland's MXT400 GMRS radio is a rebadged/recertified TYT TH9000D. They must have some kind of partnership with...
Built my own solar generator. There's stuff I've removed since then but we use it quite a bit even at home. We have frequent power outages and I drag it in to run emergency lights and charge cell phones and what not. We save the gas generator for more extended outages to power the...
Look up the "Oklahoma Adventure Trail". It'll have a decent route though eastern Oklahoma that runs though the Ouchita NF. Any where around that section of the route will be good for exploring and dispersed camping the NF areas. If you're looking for a little bit of a challenge and don't...
