dealer options that are a waste of time

Mostly I agree with this list. However I differ in some respects: -airbag suspension seems unnecessary to me. If you do a lot of hauling or towing, get better springs or an HD. Air springs eventually get brittle in the cold and some years down the line you are losing air. - in an Overlanding...

    Jeep Gladiator Mileage Question

Nice. We just got one of the Rubicon Gladiators as a rental after my girlfriends GMC Terrain had to go into the shop for bodywork. Cool Treep. Juck. Whatever we want to call it. They should have called it the Scrambler, since that's its lineage, but anyway...yours looks good! I like the truck...

    Jeep Gladiator Mileage Question

^^^ shining example how you can do very well when being gentle (29.9 over the previous 25 mile period) and then tank it when punishing the gas pedal (current average 11.3 -yikes!). Of course it varies with grade and how much I'm loaded up. Honestly, having everything tucked inside a relatively...

    Jeep Gladiator Mileage Question

I do recall "hurricane pricing" and a spike before the election. Yeah.

dealer options that are a waste of time

I've got a GMC Sierra with Leer shell on the bed of it. I built out a platform like @ChapelThrillOverland. Added and air mattress and some sleeping bags. This past spring, we went 5,742 miles, saw something like 13 states and 4 or 5 National Parks. We did fine like that as long as we stayed at...

    Jeep Gladiator Mileage Question

Wow. Boston's North Shore had gas prices of 98c to $1.19 between 1998 and the dot com bubble burst. Sorry for you you had 4.00 a gallon back then

    Jeep Gladiator Mileage Question

I'm no expert, sir, but... 4:10's on a lifted Jeep that you then lifted more. On 35 inch tires, with a rooftop tent. Water is 8.3 pounds per gallon. Of course you need it, but realize you are carrying an extra person's worth in water and fuel alone. I wouldnt expect good mileage from that. As...

Relying on Paper Maps, Vehicle GPS, and Natural Instincts

Where can I go for off road add on's for 2004 silverado?

Avalanche. Wow. I was looking at one of those 10 years ago but went with something else at the time. Wish I'd have grabbed up an Avalanche. Wish they still made them. They even made some in 2500HD. The new Hummer EV will take up a similar configuration but I cant afford over 100 grand for a...

Yakima style rack on a A.R.E. camper shell with tracks

Yes, the only thing with my setup is that the towers (feet?) bolt directly through the shell and are not adjustable. I had seen other shells for sale on Craigslist with the tracks you mention, but it never worked out in terms of price or distance. But that's what I wanted at first. Someday...if...

I'd like to go where that last picture is

Yakima style rack on a A.R.E. camper shell with tracks

Nope. Never tried that though I thought about it. Instead, I bought a used Leer 180 off of Craigslist, then bought a used Trac Rac Cap Rack, also off of Craigslist. A ladder, many measurements, painters tape, a drill and some wrenching later, I was very satisfied with the results.

Roof Rack Awnings, what are you using and can you share some pics please

I often just use a blue tarp. But the silver reflecting the sun made me think about breaking out one of my Space Blankets and putting silver side up.

$900 1980 Ford F250 - Budget Build - The best overlander is the one you have

Wow! A 1980 Ford F-250! That'd make a pissah overlander! I'm not kidding. When I was a kid we had a 1978 F series. Same damn type of seat cover as in your fist picture. The thing was absolutely cavernous inside. I'd get one if I could find a good one in the Northeast. That or a 1970's through...

    Do you carry bolt cutters?

Well, I guess the folks in the south get a special dispensation on the PB Blast clue, ha ha

    Northeast

I have put that in as a suggestion once or twice, with little to no traction. But I still like the idea
