Reaver's 03 Xterra XE "Gamora" build thread

Been a while since I've updated the thread. We took Nebula and Gamora out over memorial Day weekend with a group of overland bound members. I towed the trailer in it's final configuration behind Nebula, while my wife drove Gamora. Everything in Gamora worked awesome, especially the new Kenda...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Yup! I have 4 68qt boxes, and two 54qt boxes. I used to ratchet strap them to the rack, but wanted to try them bolted down. I figure I'll put stuff I don't need to access regularly up there. Chain saw, tools, shower, etc.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Finally managed to get my plano boxes mounted to the roof rack. 1/2in plywood inside the box, with 4 12mm bolts passing through the plywood and the box.

    Washington Coast

You can dispersed camp in any National Forest and WA state DNR land. I don't live in WA, so I don't know what other options you have, but make sure to check with the managing body regarding any current restrictions in the area (fire, etc) before heading out. Ranger districts always appreciate it...

11.11.0 Ironhorse Release - Route Planning with Route Snapping

Initial testing indicates that this is VERY promising! Nice work OB team! I've got to say, mobile route planning on Gaia (for me, anyways) sucks. It's super slow, after briefly testing this, it's WAY faster. I'll have to load it up on my tablet to see how it does.

I've found that 5-6 hours of driving time for me is about the sweet spot for me. I also have found that large convoys definitely tend to slow things down. 4-6 vehicles works best in my experience. More than that, and you tend to experience exactly what you've mentioned. We typically have 2-4...

Thoughts on Off Brand hardshell RTT

I would look at some of the bigger, but less popular brands. We bought an Ironman 4x4 nomad 1300.its a hybrid tent. Similar to the ikamper tents. So far, we love it, and while it's not perfect, by any means, we have zero regrets. If you welait for a sale, they usually have 25% off deals, and...

Power Option For Fridge In Part Time Rig

Power Option For Fridge In Part Time Rig

I carry a jump pack for this reason. While a single a battery is not the ideal solution, I've run a single battery for years with no issues. I've not killed it while camping. That being said, I've actually had to use my jump pack while on the way to an event. My battery died with no warning, and...

Power Option For Fridge In Part Time Rig

This will work, but double check to make sure the bluetti has a regulated 12v output (most of the more high end power stations do). If not, tleven with the battery cutoff set to low, the fridge will shut off with about 50% battery left, due to the way the voltage drops in the battery. Otherwise...

They're not half price That listing is only for the connector. You have to buy the parts that go on the wire separately. So it works out to be roughly the same price. That being said, it's an option. However, you can replace your starter battery with a dual a purpose rv battery for about 130...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

@tjZ06 - I'm not super well versed in axles. What I was trying to allude to is the h233b is incredibly strong, and unlikely to break under the amount of power the Xterra will ever make. Strength wise, it's my understanding it fits between a Dana 60 and a Dana 44. First gens have a pitman/idler...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

The first generation X has a Nissan specific version of the Dana 60, called the h233b. 2nd generation pro-4x (or offroad trim in the earlier versions) received a Nissan specific version of the Dana 44. Now, it's not exactly a Dana 60 axle, but strength wise, it's comparable. It's the same axle...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

I'm just now seeing this. As a Nissan guy, I'd definitely recommend the Xterra or Frontier, as I have both. WJ's are great vehicles, and they were available with a v8, but for the love of all that is unholy, don't let it overheat. The squarebody chevy's (Tahoe, Suburban) are super comfy...
