What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Did the ball joints and U-joints on the YJ's front axle. Was a 2 part project due to finding the u-joints absolutely trashed when I went to do the ball joints and I only had one spare 760X ujoint on the shelf. When I completed the job yesterday I found out I must have not been paying attention...

    Balancing Beads

I've used them on and off over the years on Jeeps and motorcycles. I've had mixed results. Sometimes they've worked other times not so much. Can't explain it. I've had much better luck with a basic static balancer and some stick on lead weights.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I usually do regular oil analysis on my vehicles. This is the first one I've done on this YJ after doing a short interval change after getting it all back together, I got this with over 200k miles on it, and it had sat for years prior to this and it had the rattle as well. Sounds like a diesel...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Mission Creep "noun a gradual shift in objectives during the course of a military campaign, often resulting in an unplanned long-term commitment." I started out today just doing some refinishing on the Jeep's exterior paint. This quickly morphed into deciding I'm going to repaint the inside...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

On the Jeep front, the XJ has had an exhaust leak tick for a few weeks now. Finally got the time to take it apart and deal with it. Nearly every junction was cracked and one was cracked so bad I could see daylight though the collector pipe. The one I thought was good inmy attic had small...

Jackery Solar Generator 1500: The Best Solution for Powering Camp?

HF has changed the way they do business a bit. I've seen quite a few new stores go up in the region here, hell, even my town has one. They still have the bottom of the barrel use it one and hope it doesn't break brands and tools, but they have incorporated a sort of tiered system in what they...

Comparison of Lightweight Power Stations for Overlanding

This was my experience as well. I spent maybe 60 dollars less building my DIY power box vs one of the prebuilt ones and that was using heavier cheaper SLA batteries vs Lithium batteries. Capacity was pretty close, but the prebuilt unit was still advertised as having more capacity. I still...

    Insurance. Who Do You Like?

Insurance rates are going up across the industry, both auto and homeowners. We've had some pretty crazy years from an insurance perspective, mostly due to severe weather and wildfires. How many homes and cars have been destroyed by these events not counting all the regular wrecks and fender...

US Southwest AZBDR VIA '23 FORD RANGER FX4

My dad and I usually try to take a trip once a year that's about a week long or so and explores whatever we can access in that time. This year we decided to do the NMBDR but due to the weather forecast and my experience on the southern portion of the NMBDR trying to make progress we decided to...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Whew haven't updated on the YJ in a while. Haven't covered this project as close as the CJ5 or 2A. Drove an hour north and scooped up the correct style of steel wheel for this year and trim package. I was about to give up and buy some refurbs from ROCKAUTO but stumbled across these for 60...

Midland 3 dB Gain Ghost Antenna vs. 6 dB Gain Antenna

You could run them on an antenna switch, but really there's no need. Just swap them back and forth as needed. They take almost no space in a vehicle and an NMO antenna takes about 20 seconds to swap out.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Finally, got back to work on the YJ. Replaced the rear shackles with stock units and lifted the tank back in. After messing with the connector a bit, got the pump to energize and the Jeep started with 29ish PSI at idle and almost 40 with the FPR unhooked. About perfect by the book. I pulled...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Nothing serious yesterday, no pictures. Replaced the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, left engine mount, which came off in two pieces, and the other idler pulley bearing which was like it was rotating on sand, this did not fix the rattle so the timing set will be getting replaced, and...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Got the YJ restarted today. New battery cables, battery, serpentine belt, idler pulley bearing, plugs, wires, cap rotor, and valve cover gasket. Starts better but still idles rough. Found a sizeable crack in the exhaust manifold, and fuel pressure is sitting at 20 psi. It should be 31 at idle...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

31s swapped for 235s Frame welded redneck bumper/winch plate cut off and tossed 2 inch body lift deleted. Radiator drop kit deleted. Wanted to make more progress but one of the body mount bolts fought me and I had to cut an access for one of the square nuts under the passenger seat. Also picked...
