Need off line, stand alone, PC based mapping software. Anyone doing this?

Not sure this is what you need, I've used it for mountainbiking, granted I printed out maps not downloaded gpx files, though it says you can do them or KML files. www.mapmyride.com

    Done with ground tent

I suggest what ever you want to purchase find something nearby in a combination near to what you want, RTT on a 80series(?) or on your homebuilt trailer. Then set it up and down a couple of times and climb in and out, see if that is something you and the Missus want to/can be doing on the trail...

Planning my first trip to Death Valley, need suggestions, info, opinions

As PortageBay says, Death Valley is LARGE, larger than you think and things are farther apart than you think. Plus the drive down is long. I usually camp first night at Trona Pinnacles after stocking up in Ridgecrest. I don't know any places at Kit Fox Hills to camp. but you probably could get...

    Dangerous situations!

One time I was in Nevada on the Extraterrestrial Hwy in my Ford Ranger, I stopped for a break at a spring and got out and walked around. I made the mistake of leaving the door open. Returning in a few minutes to the truck I got back in and drove off and eventually found a campsite for the...

Basin and Range National Monument, NV

I've been on Hwy 375, The Extraterrestrial Hwy, And over to Caliente and on to Utah. I am more familiar with the area around The Arc Dome Wilderness. It all is as remote as you can get and not to be taken lightly. There is a great park to stay in just south of Caliente; Kershaw-Ryan SP. There...

    Low budget...ideas for mods?

Is the TAT even possible that time of year? Maybe do a fund raiser trip(pick a health issue or women's support group) to gain some street cred to back up a pitch for sponsors.

DIY builds and maintenance. Who works on their own rigs?

Hey Larry! One thing I forgot to say was that with a 60 year old car I want to be able to fix things if they go wrong in the bush, not like today's vehicles that go into limp home mode for some stupid electronic reason.

DIY builds and maintenance. Who works on their own rigs?

I got out of the USN in late July 73, in Aug I bought a 64 Land Rover and got my drivers license. In Jan 73, traded in the 64 for a new 73 at the dealers. Drove it home 45 miles. In the morning there was a puddle of oil under it. Called the dealership and they said "Drive it back and we'll fix...
