Check out this thread; Death Valley trip Main thing to remember is DV is frelling HUGE! Don't expect to see it all in one trip unless you have 2 months to stay there. Or you are one of the drive-by visitors that don't get out of the car.
I've camped at some of the old mining areas like Queen...
Trail pilot, a bearproof container or hanging from a tree works best and I think we can all agree that inside a vehicle is not bearproof. The issue becomes how much food did you bring and can you fit it in a bearproof container or a hang. What ever do not put it in your tent with you either...
I just don't find the jobs to warrant carrying a multi tool while camping. I carried one at work for years and it was handy there. My dailey is a 40 year old Buck 560 folder, usually in my pocket and always sharp. I have a couple of fixed blades, but rarely carry them, they are in the rig if I...
On your map at point B turn right and follow the road, it comes around to point A. On GooooooooooogleEarth; Google Earth
I dunno if that is a 52" trail also.
So, What scope do you have? I am an amateur also and have an 8" Dobsonian, it is a bit bulky to take and I am working out how. I go mostly to Death Valley area and the Nevada desert. The skies are very clear and you can get pretty far from city lights, more so in Nevada, the lights from Pahrump...
How much is the subscription fee? I bought a Terrafix 406 some 10 years ago from ACR ARTEX: Emergency Beacons & Supplies - The Science of Survival with no subscription fee, just free re-registration with NOAA every 2 years. Never used it, but always take it. While for some it might be necessary...
Hey Tripp! I'm pretty new here too. Interesting site, different outlook on camping and cooking. I have a cousin in OK who married a Westbrook. Happy New Year!

Reasonable is a relative term, too many factors. I went with the Timm Cooper swap on all 4...
I think it depends on what you want out of it, in particular where you want to drive. I like the idea of an ambulance also, but I would opt for an old Land Rover one. It can go many places that the Earth Roamer or Unimog will never get, manly due to size not capability. Would I take it on Hell's...
I use a , I think, 64oz Nalgene bottle for hot water in the bag, usually by morning it is body temp. I also use a 32oz pee bottle, being an older guy I get up too often at night to pee unless I curtail my beer intake in camp.
I like to travel at night , because a) there is less traffic, b) my car and I are slow.
First I put on a combo flood/beam light bar from Superbrightleds for $139; 50" Super Series Off-Road LED Light Bar - 144W - 17,000 Lumens | Super Bright LEDs
