HAM vs. GMRS - The Great Debate

How about 2m 146.520, the National Calling Frequency? You will only hear someone on 146.460 if there are other OB members in the area traveling as a group. I always have a radio set to 146.460 but unless I’m running a trail with other OB members I never hear chatter, but there is a lot of...

US East Running the Trans America Trail (TAT) from WV to the OR coast

The solution to this problem isn’t an easy one, nor is there a right or wrong way to approach this dilemma. I have two solutions that work very well hand in hand. First every one who RSVP’s to my RPs are sent a link to a spreadsheet where they have to fill out some information. This...

    Emergency 2 way communication

My cheap HF rig cost $250, but then again I built it myself… a good mobile HF rig starts out at less than $500.00 for a prebuilt radio. Check out the Xeigo G-90. I personally run a Icom IC-7100 all band all mode radio. They are running $750 right now. As for spinning the dial, that’s what...

The Great Chip Shortage / What Happens Next ?

One cool thing about the chip shortage… it’s bringing jobs back to the American soil. I know of a couple companies that have started ramping up micro chip production here in the US. It will be interesting to see what the prices and quality will be compared to what was coming out of Japan.

The Great Chip Shortage / What Happens Next ?

Housing here is also a bidding war. My brother just sold his house for $500,000. He was asking $400,000 and he bought it for $75,000 5 years ago.

Sketchy at best? 1000 QSO in 24 hours in the mountains on 70cm-160m ranging from 1/4 mile to a crossed the gloab tells me this isn’t true.

    The Tri-Cities Clubhouse

You read correct. I just spent the week up at Jubilee Lake and we were kicked out… southerner Blues are still open (South of I-84). I will probably be running up Spring Creek Road, or playing around on Mount Emily next weekend.

    Emergency 2 way communication

4 hour drive up to the spot vs 20 minute chopper. The SOS from a SPOT sends out SAR, SAR didn’t know to bring medivac, repellers, litter crew… ect ect… all of this is part of the required request for equipment we ask someone calling in for help, along with the best coordinates for evac (both...
