Welcome! You posted pics of your emblem, now post pics of your rig:) That'll help determine the best place. You'll get 50 ideas here and then you'll just have to pick what seems best for you.
Now that I have it, I should have started with it. But, of course, I didn't know how many things were going to be added over the years. Organization, labeled circuits, and fuses all in one place make it a no brainer.
You're a true Landie owner now! Welcome to the club:) I like to carry premixed coolant instead of just distilled water. It will have a higher boiling point than plain water so it won't boil over as fast if the engine gets hotter. Water does have more thermal capacity than straight coolant, but...
No user error. Just plugged in. This happened fairly recently and I can't really talk about it out of respect for my buddy.
Like I said, it was probably an isolated case, it just hit a little too close to home for me to want one of their products in my house or truck.
I don't think the rack needs dual batteries! HAHA, j/k.
How are you attaching the rack to the truck? That seems to always be the biggest puzzle to solve.
Have a complete change of clothes for sleeping. Any moisture trapped in your day clothes will freeze you at night in the colder temps. Comfy wool socks are a must. If you have a ground tent and sleeping pad, use an extra blanket between you and the pad. It will be more effective than on top of...
Can't help, I've never owned a Goal Zero product. But, after a friend lost everything (literally) to one of their chargers, I will never own a GZ product. I'm sure it was an isolated case, but that's enough to make up my mind.
Thank you @Michael, @Corrie and @BazzaJ for all of the hard work, time and dedication you put in Overland Bound! What you've created and built is incredible and I'm happy to be a part of it and everyone across the globe. Having random people notice the OB0070 patch on my jacket, or written on...
@O.Dfj has it correct. You need M+S labeled tires and 4WD during chain control sections. Anything else and you need to chain up. If conditions are so bad that the 4WD equipped vehicles with M+S tires need chains, the highway will just close.
I was coming home from Reno last year during a storm...
I used MVUMs for the first time this Fall. @BEAR and I did a trip through Mendocino National Forest and we had a set printed based on our route. At camp, we looked for different tracks that would join back to our planned course. We did make a wrong turn that quickly became the highlight of the trip.
Not too long ago, someone had a similar issue. I suggested using CLR (not sure what caused his corrosion). White vinegar or a baking soda and water mixture. You could also try a place like West Marine. They might have something to remove or mitigate salt corrosion.
I was thinking about making a big fancy post in that section but wanted to give you the quick version for now. There are a few tracks and trip info that will go in that section :)
Happy Holidays to you @Michael, and everyone at Overland Bound!!!
Here's a map of the Lost Coast trip I've done previously. I have a gps track but need to "track" it down.
From Laytonville, go North on 101 to Leggett
Head West on Hwy 1 until you're about to head South
Make a right onto USAL Rd. and head North until you hit the campground (you can look down at...
Sorry @Michael been sick for the past few days.
Usal Rd. is probably closed by now. This happens sometime in November, usually a week or two before Thanksgiving. Given all of the rain recently, it's for the best. To know for sure, you'd have to check the DoT for Mendo County.
Ok, I went and...
Nice article @Michael! I'd agree that lockers aren't needed for overlanding. There are lots of places to explore where they aren't needed. Sometimes I think all they do is get you more stuck! Don't forget, if you want lockers that means you'll need stronger axles (and cv's if you're doing the...
