What is your current vehicle? As much as I love my Land Rover, very rarely do I suggest someone buy one that's out of factory warranty. If you're just starting out, you may want to try and find a vehicle with some light mods (lift, tires, maybe bumpers or armor). That can be a mixed bag because...
Hey @stoney126 I have some good experience organizing events and training sessions. We can at least spitball some ideas of how to make it happen. I've been wanting to do a general training day at Hollister for a while myself. Shoot me a PM if you want to talk some more:)
There's actually more weight on the rear in the situation you describe (assuming you're talking about climbing over an obstacle). The front suspension gets unloaded and there is little weight to push the tires onto the ground for better traction. So that means the rear needs to handle the...
Front lockers are usually something that gets engaged briefly, only when the locked rear isn't able to push you up the obstacle. The front will instead, help pull the vehicle up and over. The problem (more so with an air locker) is that your steering is almost locked and there's not much you can...
I'm running BFG KM2's. On my 3rd set right now. I've had a few different brands of AT's before switching to the MT, and have stuck with the KM2. The KM3's are starting to be tested out in the wild by non-BFG folks. I haven't seen a release date for the public, but am curious to see what's new...
Check the rating of the come-a-long before you purchase one. Most aren't rated as high as the Hi-Lift and might not work to get you out if you're really stuck.
Here we go with another installment from my 4xFar Adventures training manual. This time we're going to talk about some of the information that can be found on the sidewall of any tire.
There’s a ton of info about the tire that can be found on the sidewall. Most importantly are the tire’s size...
So pretty much every vehicle now comes from the factory with alloy wheels. For vehicle manufacturers, it makes sense because of the weight reduction vs. a steel counterpart. There's less rotational mass to turn the wheel so there's a savings in fuel economy which is what most buyers pay...
What are you planning to carry, what type of trails, and what do you drive?
A hitch mounted rack will severely reduce your departure angle. If it's stacked with stuff, you may have an issue accessing gear in the back of the vehicle, depending on how the tailgate opens. Sometimes they can wobble...
Since I'm still recovering from my broken leg I wasn't able to go with Team Disco Dolls last weekend for their first sand dune driving class in Pismo. Our friend Lutzi Haas, who runs Xtreme Hummer Adventures, already offered his assistance with the training so @AlysonH and @erinw.rrc made the...
I've been meaning to update this thread for a couple weeks now. Even with my broken leg, Team Disco Dolls and I still wanted to have the Tire Tech class in February. So instead of waiting for my leg to heal or doing it outside in bad weather, I decided we could just hold it in my house instead:)...
I agree about Pirate4x4. There's a Land Rover forum that can be no holds barred but the info there is top notch. "Use the search function!"
If you don't want to go through the posts on Pirate, start by reading some of the Billavista Bible.

I need to replace the cats on my D2. There's no aftermarket option that is CA certified, so it looks like I'll be forking over a grand for a complete Y pipe. Something to keep in mind if buying an older vehicle. My truck is a 2001 MY with 205,000 miles on it.
So few times do we get any real vindication when stuff like this happens. Glad to see they not only caught him, but are making an example out of him too!
Good find @BCBrian!
An old Land Rover slogan/bumper sticker read "The Best 4x4xFar". I started my own company and called it 4xFar Adventures. Another Rover nut in California already had 4xFar, so I got mine as you'd speak the name.
'01 D2 owner here. I'm running Ashcroft HD axles front and rear, including cv's. The diffs are re-geared to 4.14 with the "diff peg" in the housing, front and rear. The rear has a Detroit Locker, and the front has an Eaton (Detroit) Truetrac.
I waited a looong time to get everything and then...
