Welcome back to the overland bound community from another Ram driver. Rim rocker was one of my goals too. In June 2023 I finally got a chance to knock it out. Would you believe the trail was still closed because of snow. Glad to have you join us.
I've been a ham for many years and have a load of radios. The Baofeng will definately get you started in the hobby. Also if you accidently sit on it and break it you wont spend a long time crying over it. They're relatively cheap. It's not like the 300.00 radios out there.
I have just returned to Tampa Fl from that area in the middle of June and loved it. I did the normal tourist spots including the North Rim Visitor center , Cape Royal, Timp Point and Fence Point etc. etc.... I also made a quick stop at Horseshoe Bend near Page Utah which was just as beautiful...
Our home base was at the Port Au Prince airport. I was the Platoon Sergeant for the ADA unit that was in the tent next door to the Comm Tent. Small world.
Curious, Where we’re you at during Uphold Democracy in Haiti? I led patrols every night in Petionville. Doing drug and weapons interdiction. 8 1/2 month of fun and games with the 25th Inf Div.
U.S. Army, 1977-1997, Retired medically after 20 years. 6 major deployments dozens of smaller ones. I'd love to do it all over again, just duck a little faster the next go around.
