I moved here when I was 20 so, 22 years ago. I spent a good amount of time around Kyles Bute west of Glasgow and wow, beautiful area… Most of Scotland is beautiful to be fair though. You will have a great time no matter where you land.

Not sure if this helps BUT… Just outside of one of the South entrances is a GREAT free camping area at the end of a dirt road called Daltons Wash. There is a pretty fun trail to climb to get up on top too. I spent 10 days at this one spot last year because there was literally no one else there...
