East Bay Meet-up, San Leandro CA - 08/25/2018

I believe it's at 17:00. That's when I get off of work. I'm going to scoot on down right after- I'm only 7 minutes away.

    Mountain biking

I too had a Rockhopper. I bought mine back in 1985- it was probably first year they built it. I took it with me to school at San Luis Obispo and beat the crap out of that thing. I remember taking a trip up Mount Madonna. I tacoed the rear wheel on my way down! That bike got rebuilt a couple of...

Where did you install your OB emblem?

I put mine right where the "Trail Rated" badge was on my Jeep- the natural place for it to be. I reapplied the oem badge on the tailgate.

Tell me about your backpacking tent!

The 2-person version of that tent is the TNF Tadpole. I've got one of those. Bought it back long ago...

    Not Showing Up On Map

I joined as a member a couple of weeks ago. It looks like most of my profile features are working, but for some reason, I do not show up on the map, nor is there a "view map" link on my forum posts. Is there something that I need to activate? Or do I need to pass a certain amount of posts or...

What part of NorCal are you from? There are a few meetups happening this coming weekend in the Bay Area if you're anywhere near.

Do You Keep a Vehicle Journal?

Yes, I've been keeping logs on all my vehicles for decades. They keep me abreast on when oil change, tire rotation, etc is due. They also keep running totals on costs of each vehicle (like it really matters).

    Traction Board Review

I've been looking into traction boards. Your review is fantastic and very informative! Thank you for putting that together!

    Coffee Set Ups

I've been using a Peet's plastic coffee cup/french press for years. But that Perkomax sure does look interesting...

Yeti vs Pelican cooler quick overview

I purchased a Yeti 65L a few months back. So far, I'm very happy with it, but I've only used it once- a 4 day outing. I used four Freez Pak™ Extra Cold -2°C Reusable Ice bricks to aid in keeping the cooler cold to supplement the ice. At the end of my trip, there was still a small amount of ice...

    Spot-X two way satellite messenger.

Good honest evaluation. I've been looking into eventually getting a SpotX myself. I, fortunately, have an assortment of Windows systems, as well as a few Macs laying around. I'll just hope for the best, when it's time to bite the bullet :)

    What camera should i buy?

You might just check out your local Costco. They frequently have "entry level" camera outfits on sale, both Nikon and Canon. A couple of years ago, I bought the Nikon D3300 bundle for my trip to the Galapagos Islands. The package included the body, 2 lenses and a bag (plus a bunch of tutorial...

    Rotopax vs. Fuelpax

That's a hardy endorsement. I'll really have to consider the Fuelpax. It really comes down to the configuration of how I'm going to carry them. I'm leaning towards mounting a mounting plate to my tailgate HD hinges to the passenger side of my spare, then stacking 2 together, which would rule out...

    Our Journey to Moab

Definitely on my list of to dos! Thanks for a great write-up! Nice pics depicting the gravity of the situations!

    Rotopax vs. Fuelpax

Hmmm....didn't really think about that. I guess I hadn't imagined that they were so soft and flimsy. Definitely food for thought. And thanks v_man for your good suggestion. I'm still deliberating.

    Rotopax vs. Fuelpax

Thanks for the great insights. I too was thinking about getting two 3-gallon vessels, but am still a little bit unclear as to what "stackable" means. I have seen pictures of users stacking them side-by-side like books and stacking one on top of the other, snapping together like Lego pieces. I am...

    Rotopax vs. Fuelpax

I'm looking for fuel storage for my rig. I've ruled out the traditional Jerry cans and have narrowed my search to the Rotopax systems. What is the main differences between the Rotopax and the Fuelpax besides the price? What is the caveat? Durability? Production quality? Convenience features? Of...
